Dear sir, Its really good article and thought provoking.By dint of hardwork, IIT became a brand. It should not be tampered on the basis of Casteism.THere should not be any reservations in the institutes of higher learning. Let the politicians like Arjun singh etc., should go through this article for their shame legislation proposal.
Hey Muthu, dont write just for the sake of writing. Now a days, it is the OBC people who are suppressing the SC/ST. It is for this reason, there are Caste Tesnions in southern TamilNadu. Everyone knows this.
I really like this story. This is very true that this drastic step will reduce the prestige of IIT.How can our country progress when after some time the nation will ruled by the persons who always depend on reservationfor their progress rather their merit and hard work(optional).Any taker
The OBC and SC/ST are entitled to get reservation in services and educational institutions under control of central and state governments, but not in private sectors. Indian economy is day by day privatising. The founders of constitutions rightly provided reservations to backwards class because in Indian society the caste and religion is main criteria while providing jobs and then marriages. We are in 7 top in corrupt countries and if reservation would not be provided you did not find a single IAS or IPS officers in Indian services. When I was serving in service my boss was evening everyday used to go foreign and early morning retunring to home. He has minted money with the collussion of concern minister. We are reading in newspapers about the corrutions in recruitment examinations and even academic qualifications, because of reservations atleast they can not recruit reserved seats with vested interest. If there was no reservation all good post will held by relatives of some particular castes in each state. Even in travalling people sitting in same compartment recognized their caste people by names and start behaving, which were known by our constitutions makers
I do not know if you have ever been to a country called the United States. There they do ask you(i.e Americans) which race you belong to, at your time of admission."Race and Ethnicity" are considered a criterion for admission in colleges in the United States.I have never heard of places like MIT,Harvard being shunned by serious academics for such a practice. Actually serious academics all over the world shun this attitude that "merit" is measured by examination scores alone, and is something that is absolute and independent of the socio-economic background of the student. I am myself a pass out from an IIT,a B.Tech. Please do not tell me that academics all over the world thinks "seriously" about a bunch of people most of whom join as "software coolies" in those IT firms in B'Lore. While IIT does produce the best brains of the country,no serious academic ever believes anybody to be brilliant simply by the dint of being an IITian. IIT is a middle class myth, that is being fed by the media.Hence, the middle class desperation and obsession to keep it elitist. That IIT lacks in social diversity is one of the reasons that most of its students come out as intellectually stunted "techies"
this is indeed a sane article written by the professor. i would suggest all youths of india and ofcourse learned people form SC/ST & OBC like the author to join hands against the reservation policy and bring awareness among SC/STs that the politicians who r bringing in these policies will do no good to them. its time for some concrete action..... not just articles & morchas.
elite institutes should reject all applications attached with caste certificates. when a caste certificate is attached, it shows that that the candidate is not confidant bout his calibre.
I belong to OBC class. But I am proud to say that I have never ever used this to get any privilages in my life. Without any special considerations, I was able to get admission in Indian Institute of Science, and work with many academic and industrial R&Ds. You cannot come up by charity and concessions. Try to compete with the best which will bring out the best in you. You will be more proud of yourself when you do it in merrit rather than any reservation category. I also studied in a village school, Malayalam medium. With all that, if I could come up without any OBC brand support, any one can. I find many of these people, who are crying for reservations belong to upper middle class families, with well-educated parents.
Although i am 200% against castist reservation, but if there is reservation that should include some more areas of MP's interest. there should be reservation in Armed forces, there should be reservation in hospital for OBC patients, there should be reservation in railway seats and offcourse in sports too. if this is not possible than reservation on cast basis should not be atall.
