Why no cocern for well being of India and progress
by k k vaisoha on Jun 12, 2006 12:27 PM  Permalink

Response of the post 1947 generations show that they have acquired attitudes which are very selfish, selfcentred and with no concern for our long practiced traditions and high ethics and worst of all, no love for the rapid advancement of our nation at large.

Korea, Taiwan , China which were no better than us in 1947 have now forged ahead of India. We have been sinking into pettiness and narrow mindedness like the one that, by our traditons utterly disgraceful and shameful, is being exhibited and demonstrated by the anti-quotaites who seem to be copycat AFRIKAANS MINDSET lot believing in APARTAHEID.

Bihari Chandergupt Maurya by defeating Greeks and putting Greek power in decline made India the SUPER POWER of the world, Asoka was the greatest King that ever lived in the whole world, Kalidas was the SHAKESPEARE of India, Valmiki an unmatched writer, ASHTVAKRA, Kabir, Birbal, Ambedkar. all prove that intelligence is not the monopoly of any one group but a very widely spread faculty which needs to be mined on a large scale for the rapid advancement of the nation. Lord Krishan ,the KOOTNEETIPURSHOTTAM , the giver of BHAGWAT GITA,was a Yadav.Radha was a Gujar.K.K.Vaisoha

reservation
by shree damle on Jun 12, 2006 10:08 AM  Permalink

I am really happy that we do have such sane people in our country whether OBC or not who do not want to walk with crutches. Everybody should realise that it is nothing but politics to gain votes.
Why don\\\'t the politicians realise that Indians no more need such crutches anymore. they already had it for 60 years. If we were really in such a worst situation, how come the politicians including the President never had any problem reaching this position without any reservation....if the so called higher caste were suppressing the so called lower caste, how come the higher caste is electing a SC/ST/ OBC candidate and supporting a president like Mr. Narayanan....

Backwardness - only result of backward quota!
by Ravi Pandey on Jun 12, 2006 08:57 AM  Permalink

I think the author has presented best example in front of the people who think they cant when then can.

I think the only reason why Backward class students cant score much and cant go far ahead in the race is bcoz they know tht they would any how get admission if they score so as so marks?
This poor and sluggish mentality has ruined that talent which OBCs and other category students posses in them.
Come on guys get off the head , stop giving reasons for the failure!!

I do not agree with the author

I am also a brand OBC (econimically not so forward too) PhD (close to finish) from a much more demanding place than IIT (with respect to PhD). I am wondering why no one, including this author, ever argue for abolishing the caste-based coaching center for JEE and caste-based schools? If you want specific names, I can give them to interested people.

It is very curious ... most people have nothing to say for themselves, until someone has the courage to raise an issue ... THEN they want to know why some OTHER issue was not tackled!

Instead of having an informed debate about the topic, people are busy looking for vested interests and hidden motives and lacunae in the author's article.

The easy way out of accepting responsibility for your own silent approval of not-so-nice happenings in the world?

Use the quota fully
by vijay on Jun 12, 2006 07:13 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I request all the OBC candidates who can qualify for general category to use the quota to the fullest extent. This will prevent some non qualifying person to use the quota.
I made a mistake of not using my quota. It resulted in a better qualified person not getting a seat.

Regards
Vijay

This is a really courageous solution - if you cannot beat down a politically created mess, join it and beat them at their own game ... yes indeed - if merit became an issue within the reservation, then the latter perhaps would not cause as much damage to the nation ...

caste quotas are unjust
by susarla on Jun 12, 2006 02:59 AM  Permalink

what is the definition for backward cast? In what way a poor brahmin struggling to feed his family-- and there are plenty of such people-- forward? All social and educational institutions are open to every cast. Only SC/STs suffered due to the practice of untouchability and special consideration for them makes sense. Why should there be any special consideration for quotas for any other non-SC/ST cast? The proposed quota system is unjust and is gross violation of human rights of so called forward cast people. The government should be thinking interms phasing out existing quotas instead of creating new ones.

A must read article for anyone supporting reservation
by manvi on Jun 12, 2006 01:28 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

A very well written sensible article and wats even more heartening is that it comes from a person who belongs to the OBC category himself .
Infact by accepting & asking 4 reservations the Obc students are admitting the fact that they on there own have no calibre and hence need special favours from the govt at the cost of some other diligent student losing his seat.
Like some obc students there r many gen category students who to donot get proper education facilities, shouldn't the govt provide them wid reservation too ?& if yes, how would it pick & choose such students out of the million out there?

By introducing reservations the govt seems to be legitimizing the concept of backdoor entries to the low scoring students ,the only diff being this provision would b available on a differential basis neglecting the so called general & favouring the OBC category only.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!

I agree with u completely its high time the obcs join the anti reservation protest and show some self respect instead of begging the govt to help them find a seat in iit and iims
