Very well written article and i completely emphathise with the author. The politicians have no other intention other than votes. Just by reserving some 1000 odd seats at IIT's one cant improve the lot of OBC's. You can reserve seats at IIT and may be even for jobs in private post-IIT but one can never reserve nor guarantee a sucessful career by just implementing reservations. The primary education should be fine-tuned so that a level playing field is created for students from all castes. Its high time we get rid of the sick caste system that has been prevalent from thousands of horrible years.
I am an FC by classification and have always failed to understand why these reservations existed in the name of caste and creed. Incase, no one knows, there are people belonging to backward communities who are literally sinking(not even floating!) in money ... even better off than the so-called "forward castes"... and yet they get into top institutions by virtue of their caste. How many can anyone say is bright and meritorious enuff to warrant for that seat ? Many "wannabe" engineers and doctors merely get in purely on the basis of their castes... and these are the so-called representatives of India in the global market! Many of them can't even speak english with the subject and predicate in the right places. Nice way to deal with education in India! Is it any small wonder then that I chose to make a life for myself overseas?
OBCs should throw away the demeaning crutches offered

Prof M S Gopinathan has given some good suggestions about the reservation problem which our country is facing . I wish we had people like him as policy makers .
From his own story he has nicely brought out, that the focuss should be on the primary education first. If that is taken care of then we will have many success stories like Prof. Gopinathan.
Great article professor. It is a eyeopener for everyone and especially to likes of VP Singh, Arjun Singh and Karunanidhi. People should deny the opportunity to these political terrorists who try to divide people on caste and religious lines. If they want to make OBC,SC/ST to run, let them first start providing good education right from the primary school, by opening model schools which offer same standard of education like english convents... for free to all the socially deprived people's children.
I feel OBC is not getting any benefits out of quota system as there is strict condition regarding non-creamy layer certificate. Government and all political parties making fool to all reserved catagories by showing quota system.
It is indeed a great relief to read such sanguine views from the writer, who has the courage to openly denounce the latest attack by politicians on secular charracter of education in India.
We need to have more people joining the movement against the vote bank policies of entire political community of country.Leyt middle class for once unite in war against reservation policy that will divide the nation once again if not stopped now.
Very well said and very clear. I too belong to OBC, but have never used it. And am proud of it. Starting with tailor forefathers we hav come a long way to me being a sw engg. I dedicate all this to my father who got us seats for what we are as humans and not what we are as by birth. I have not used my caste and do not even know how the caste certificate looks like. and am happy with what i am. The satisfaction that i derive from my work is pure. This is how things should be. Do not give a man a fish. Instead, teach him how to fish!
You said it all. Very well written. Unfortunately a few selfish narrow minded polititians get to decide the fate of India's technological centres of excellence. India is giving signs of rising above the world and it is surprising that the Government decided to announce such a thing at this stage. Maybe those who uses crutches try to make others use it as well, I guess.
