what should OBCs do
by gandhi on Jun 09, 2006 02:21 PM  Permalink

Professor is right. The plotician should try to provide quality education to all the students even in villages that is the only solution pormoting the every one. If its not possible by the government they the can ask the big gun industrialist to get involved in making the quality institutions. but they will never ever dare to do it. because as for as they arem they need these dirty politics to cash in electiions to come to power. this is not going to be changed.

Prof Gopinathan's article
by Prof Vinod S Dubey on Jun 09, 2006 02:20 PM  Permalink

Hats of to Prof Gopinathan for writing such an excellent eye-opening article targetted at OBC readership.

Hopefully, our OBC bretheren will see through the game of entire lot of vote-vulturing political parties, spurn their divisive policy of reservation aimed at garnering votes rather than ameliorating the lot of OBCs, and demand, instead, quality education to them right from the level of primary education.

Reservation
by Jerald Ratnam on Jun 09, 2006 02:20 PM  Permalink

Hello Sir,

What an absolute beauty of an idea of starting a virtual IIT. This would seem to be the solution for even the people living in remote places as now the government is keen on bringing electricity and IT to even the remote villages.

Also the educated lot should come forward now and elect only such politician irrespective of political party who are themselves well educated and think about the well being if the nation.

Great article Prof.Gopinath!
by Sandhya on Jun 09, 2006 02:19 PM  Permalink

Dear Prof. Gopinath,

A well thought out, balanced article.

Hope it will motivate the ones pretending to be asleep to sit up and think.

And sir, to your kind attention, the caste names that you mentioned, were on the point of becoming extinct in the early years of independence at least from certain castes in Kerala at least. But they are now seen to be re-appearing with a gusto.

So that's the social impact of caste-politics.

Wish voices like yours will be heard more often, loud and clear.

So that at least the future generations will think beyond caste and religion.

Dr Sandhya Ramesh.

reservation
by Mary Cherian on Jun 09, 2006 02:19 PM  Permalink

I belong to a so called "privilaged class" and our family has been educated for the past 4 to 6 generations. This has proved to be a disadvantage when it came to our children. They did well at schol ,better than all the BCs and OBCs who had also put in their application. But they had to wait for the reserved seats to be filled before they were given admission-result they finally went abroad to study where their worth was recognised for what it was. Fortunately they have come back but I wouldn't have blamed them if they hadn't.

Increase reservation and increase the brain drain and India will become the country of the mediocre. Bright students whether upper or lower or out cast will do well if just merit is the criteria and not caste. Its high time reservation of any kind was scaped

...
by Pravin on Jun 09, 2006 02:19 PM  Permalink

Its absolutely true, why should any body think that he is backward or forward. Is having a birth in some X caste makes me forward. It will be very humuliating for the so called OBC's which I think is not correct as no body can be called that as in India every one is equal. Instead of this government should give scholarships to students who are economically weaker.

If this happens the OBC's will never be uplifited.

Cast System
by D K Patel on Jun 09, 2006 02:18 PM  Permalink

I fully agree with the views expressed in this coloum. Let Govt. make seperate IITs for ST/SC/OBC and more poors masses with reserved class teachers and other supportng staff. Run for 10 yrs and see the results.
Why MAN can not see this?

time for change
by Abhishek on Jun 09, 2006 02:17 PM  Permalink

This time we can change our-selves, our nation. The way people (world) looks at us. This time to show the world we are, break all such narrow & mean caste-based thinking. I support the author, if someone has to become strong they have to face the storms.

Your thought is fully against 95% people.
by Muhunthan on Jun 09, 2006 02:16 PM  Permalink

You are serving for those FC people since two decades. You suggest 100% reservation for each class with thier respective class faculty. If you said this at the time you joining with IIT as student. It will be right(you wont be an IITian).
