This is one of the excellent article i have read and i totally agree with you. But even if the OBC's are not concerned with the reservations, still i dont think the government will eliminate one of its best way of getting votes.
Thanks you sir. India realy realy needs realy good intellectual and policy maker. It is our unfortunate that we don't have policy makers having good thoughts like Prof M S Gopinathan.
Mostly for the first ever time in my life .. I admire an OBC person (Prof. Gopinathan) for this well balanced, level headed article. I am proud that India also produces quality people beyond the caste bounday, which is mostly virtual.
What India is today in the advanced world is not because of its casteism, history, heritage but it is because of its Brilliant brain, Excellent people who know NO boundaries.
For the sake of few crooked, selfish politicians the Indian higher education.
Let these politicians show ONE person from the Reservation category SC/ST/OBC who has not excelled in primary education but did fantastically well in his higher education like Engg, Medical on Caste ground.
This is utter foolishness to the core to assume that people need much more than just reservation in the higher education. They need basic schooling at all levels to compete themselves in any higher education without help of reservation (crutches).
I am never proud to be an Indian with this dirty democracy.

Admired a OBC for the first time in your life?? What a snob! No wonder, people want reservation!! Stop discriminating !!!!
i think professor is generalising too much based on his experience. Reservations can and do help the socially disadvataged.OBC reservation is different from SC/ST reservation.
It is an excellant writing. It is an eye opener to each and every one. Its each and every word has deep sense and we should honour and adhere to his experienced views. It is the prime duty of a Government to provide quality education, quality life and dignified way of living to each citizen of the country rather than remind the sleeping sense of caste and creed and divide the harmonous society on the basis of caste and creed. Is the Government trying to make India like Bihar where even after 50 years of independence, the people are killig innocents on the basis of caste. The Government has greater responsibility to build a healthy society that to hide its misdeeds.
I will not classify an Indian Citizen as upper or lower caste.
All reserved classes must come forward and tell the nation that reservation is not required for them. What is requires is waiver of fees as per the family income and oppertunity to compete with the better people.
Let us tell the world we are INDIANS by caste, creed and religion.
Prof you have made an excellent case for the government to consider proper primary education. Hope your letter is read by the intellectually deficient politicians and will instigate some thought in their rubbish minds. You obviously need something to be instilled into your minds for it to work efficiently or devilish manner. Hope their thirst for votes will be replaced for the thirst for a better INDIA after reading your article.
I am touched with your article. It is very encouraging and comes directly from your heart. I believe IITian's are great because they think truth and scientifically. Hats off sir
