Abolish the caste system. Correct.But how???? The govt of India issues the toilet paper called caste certificate and there are more than 3600 and odd castes included in this toilet roll fo various castes.This does not include Brahmins and vaishyas and Jains and a few others,There is a stampede to get this toilet roll by people of your community.The toilet paper is safely stored in the family safe to be brought out when the bright child of BC/sc/st scores 35% and bingo it works.The child will be a doctor,Thats the problem with trying to get rid of the caste.these nonperforming assests rather asses will want to hold on to caste certificate for as long as possible.Can the govt remove the list of castes? There will be rioting.Best way is include every caste as backward.Call them mentally backward if needed!
Prof Gopinath is right.I am an OBC and I studied in one of the top ten management colleges.I never used caste as a ticket to any of the courses I studied.We need to understand why politicians are using OBC,SC/ST's as a vote bank.Every Indian know about the Varna system,it has existed since Hinduism emerged as a religion.People got divided on caste basis only for functional purposes,brahmins in charge of the temple,Kshatriya gaurded the country, Vyshyas to do business & shudras to do farming & other activities.Those days anybody could become a brahmin or a kshatriya or a vyshya depending on change of his profession or acheivement.As time passed by the top 3castes began to exploit shudras.Many of them belonging to these communities converted to other religions.People in these religions grew in numbers their demands increased the result was Pakistan.Today its the same scenario,our country will again get divided if we dont abolish caste system,I hope the higher caste as well as politicians understand.Let us abolish caste system and reservations will go.Every problem modern India has faced has been due to caste system.Let us stop diffrentiating people based caste socially.
sometimes govt interventions like this is necessary .It is in fact the so called high caste people who has lot of reservations in all institutes and corporates of their choice .nepotism is rampant amongst them .They practice castism in collages,work places ..then others .....I am sure the OBCs ,SC and STs will use the opportunity and prove to the tax payers (not necessarily to the international community) that they are equally worthy as like dr gopinath.I know a lot of doctors who dont belong to Fcs but are very good and saved lot of lives/presented lot of papers/served in rural areas in india(not in amarica) .....The present issue is unnessarily blown up !Reservations in such institutes are necessary and the social benefits are more than social costs and the govt know abt it .But i agree with Dr that the govt should create more good institutes particularly for primary edu

It is utterly false - I am from a so called Forward caste and I have never got any reservations nor have the 1000 or more ppl from so called FC that I personally know. So, don't write such stuff unless you realise what divisive and wounding messages you are sending forth
The piece written on OBC reservation is enlightening. Every one, especially the SC/ST/OBC, should read it and try to introspect whether availing reservation in IITs and other schools of learning, is moral and healthy. I feel that those who legislate to provide reservation in educational institutes and services, should in fact legislate to provide equal opportunities to every underprileged person upto high school by giving scholarships, seats in good government and public schools. Even cost of extra coaching for preparing for entrance examinations, should be provided for such persons. Once high school education is complete, there should be equal opportuniities for every one whether he/she is SC/ST or OBC or general category. Only excellence should be the means for getting a seat in higher schools of learning. Only this way felings of inferiority and backwardness in higher schools of learning can be overcome. Do not make this special class to depend on the crutches of reservation and live in ignonimy in later life for having come through reservation.
A touching article by Prof. Gopinath. There are lessons for both parties - the "upper caste" and the "lower caste".
The same scriptures which the "lower castes" decry say that it is a sin to look at any caste as lower and some other caste as upper.
While the situation of SCs/STs is different, my heart does not bleed for the OBCs- and to say that there is no creamy layer ( even in Tamil Nadu - where Brahmins are the discriminated minority) is patently untrue.
For sure, reservation will be brought on and "imposed" on all institutions and we have to go through a turbulent phase in this nation when the whole thing blows over.. till then god save the country from the politicians ( particularly "upper caste" politicians whose heart suddenly bleeds for the "lower castes" and the OBC benificiaries who know that they do not deserve it and the CREAMY and very CREAMY Layers who know that they are the creamiest of them all. The ruling family of TN gets and will continue to clamour for reservations and they are the creamiest layer of India.
Hi All, I am an engg. by proffession and an OBC by caste. Through out my acedemic years I had never realized that I am an OBC because I never felt myself weak than others. I know I have potential and I can get the things on my own hard work. I dont need reservation.First: because I know that I have potential to get the things on my own.Second: beacuse I dont wanty to get differentiated between the students of my age because of caste.I will request all the other OBC students and people who are going to read this message that reservation is neither going to strengthen the condition of the people nor it is going to benfit in any other way. On the contrary it will make the OBC people more weaker.I will always be in the opposition of this step of government which was taken under the pressure of politics of votes.And its pretty starnge that no polotical party is opposing this step openly in media.And one threat which I have is if government will take there step back the the opposition parties will start taking the advantage and that is why government is hesitating to take this step back.Today this seems to be benficial to some people but it will make the coming generation more weak.
Most of the people know that it is a losing battle to fight the murky politicians in the guise of legislators and they are using the same age old divide and rule policy that british used successfully... to fight that we are incapable as we are slaves of our own lopsided selfish mindset and that is the reason for the country's state after so many years of independence... most of the indian mindset works on the lines(even if it is against moral/ethical reasons) - y as a beneficiary i need to go against something that is coming jus for nothing when otherwise one has to prove worthy for the same through lot of hardwork!!
For the few who feel they ought to oppose think of the benefit they would accrue if they fight against it... everyone swears by patriotism for the country but in reality when the moment comes they wud duck for selfish benefit even if it is the worst for the country... Things are bound to go from worse to worst in the current state we are in... this will show up on the future generations and the mayhem would tear the country/society to pieces jus the way the mighty soviet union fell down...
Article by Prof.Gopinathan is highly emotive.Institution created after so much of effort shall be perished with just one stroke of politician.But alas people of this country is silent.Probably this country does not require IIT, it require the institution of Rabri Devis kind.
