They say heeding to a successful senior paves the way for success. Professor Gopinatham's words bear truth, I wish not just OBC/SC-ST brothers but whole nation should think and act same way.I pray God to make our politician do something good in their later stage of life so that God himself can embrace them happily.
That was a great column!I'm happy to read such views from someone who belongs to that caste. Its true that the forwards ill-treated the backwards in the yesteryears, but doing the same thing is not going to change what happened. Its like the mother-in-law to daughter-in-law treatment. We've come a long way & most of the places whether job/education,backward caste people don't get shooed away.In fact they enjoy being called backwards because its finacially profitable. Even a handicapped person likes to be treated like a regular person & does n't want any special concession. There should be no reservation at all.But we should demand financial concessions for the economically backward or like in foreign universities, get teaching positions for students pursuing higher education to pay off some part of the loan.Else, as you said a college for just the backwards with teachers who are backwards. Why don't the politicians treat themselves in a hospital with doctors who graduated based on the reserved quota or have a pilot who passed due to the quota ? The reserved class must think of these points, its the congress governments age-old technique of divide & rule. They don't care for anyone.
I am completely in agreement with this excellent article.
We should totally abolish the reservation system and only go for merit at all levels, be it education or job opportunities.
Rather than harping about reservations in institutions of higher education, the government should focus on giving good school education, which should be uniform throughout India. Then let merit take its course, rather than take refuge behind crutches like reservation.
I do hope there is a mass movement against the policies of the current government and reservations are totally abolished.

This is what I was looking to get from an 'so called' OBC. When a SC, ST or OBC will rise above grants and priviledges, that will be the real upliftment of the downtrodden society. They got to be mentally uplifted. Trust me there are other ways to do that. Those measures may not fetch the government(s) what they want ( votes ) but we surely see a changed social structure as emphasized by Prof. M.S.Gopinathan. People who are down trodden must be taught to rise and not bought to remain mentally lowered.
A Great thought. Law makers cannot take the whole nation for a ride on the name of cast and reservation. writer has correctly pointed out that instead of demanding reservation, ask for better basics and infrastructure. A nation cannot and shouldn't have a creamy layer based on cast. It should always be on knowledge.
You asked a question what happens to SC/STs once the pass out of IIT. I am right here, working in Detroit,MI and leading a development group. Donot tell us that we cant cope up with your syllabus. Ask yourself what you were trying to do with our grades, even though we were performing well. Actully there should be a system to check how profs are doing. I am sure most of the profs will soon be thrown out. In my department atleast 50% were totally useless and they were not SC/STs.
