what MR professor said is very true. Our politicans make these reservations for the sake of votes. I realy say that people have to think what is there in caste and religion? If you cut your body does any one know that you are from so and so caste and religion. Then why the hell any one need caste and religion. My only request to the government and politicans work for the benifit of the scoiety not for the sake of your votes or your caste or religion. Dont degrade Indian Education by reservation and paying donations for buying a seat in a college, which only a few people can afford. I am not againt Backward caste or Forward caste remove these words from our minds and dicitionary. people, Please think about it and join the protest against the governments new policy.Movies showed that people payed donations and constructed the dams which will collapse in few months. why they haven't shown that people having reservation are also in the same situation. I am glad that people are concerned about the under previlaged people in villages of various states. I will ask you a basic question..how many of the so called underprevilaged people in villages are able to understand the on going agitation? how many of them actually know that there are institutes called IITs/IIMs..? that is what is required to be improved. as our friend said let us do the first aid and then take the patient to hospital. but first of all let us identify the injury.. do the correct treatment and thats how the problem is solved. provide information to the rural india educate them. Nothing is going to change the fate of under previlaged when a quota is given in an higher education institution. First of all judge the person, find if providing him a seat will brighten his career or ruin it. give the information and let him decide.
I agree with the authors view. Reservation in the intial days, really did a good job in uplifting "economically backword" pepole. But once these pepole had become "economically forward", they still kept taking benifits of reservation. I think these pepole are the biggest enemy of their own cast. Because they are not allowing their own pepole to uplift their "econimical sitiation". These pepole who are supporting reservation, do not have a common sense to deny reservation if they dont deserve it. I gurantee that more than 80% of all the reserved seats are filled by the cast pepole who have already become "economically forward". Following are the bad effects of reservation. 1. Creamy layer class is becomming more and more creamy. 2. Real deserving pepole are not getting benifits of reservation, thanks to already "economically forward" cast pepole. 3. The real affected pepole are "economically backword" forward cast pepole. They can not access any resources and can not get admission because of reservation. So before adding more reservation, its effectiveness should be measured. Rather I will say, end reservation, backword pepole will uplift themselves.
I have always had the highest regards for Profs teachers in every univ. and school .In an utopian society ,only the best should have had the privilige to teach the next genertaion.
The resignation of 2 members from Knowledge Commsion reinforced my belive that knowledge is also the strength to side the the right. I was awaiting precisely for this exact article. Every passing day was creating doubts in me of what happened to the Professors who have hand held students in these institutes. Aren't they going to speak out .

Excellent article. In my humble view it should be "survival of the fittest" with no reservations required after +2 level. And like some ppl said that we must visit our villages and do something for the down trodden before we say that the quota system shud be abolished, to this theory I have a very simple response, see you can't push someone to study, there are both studious/dumb students in both upper and lower castes. What I am suggesting is the quota segregation should be done based on financial and not caste status. I suggest to pick em young. That is, govt. should spend more on setting up good schools till +2, India has one of the most demanding primary education systems in the world, so lets utilize it to fullest and let all students, irrespective of cast/creed etc etc study in these schools and govt must emphasize to make them real warriors, fund them with everything i.e. food/school uniform/books/travel allowance/hostel etc etc and after +2 let them be thrown on the battle field and let the games begin after i.e. to clear PET/PMT/IIT/AFMC/AIIMS etc etc, and let the best men standing and let there be survival "of only the fittest" , the "fittest" can be a "Brahmin/kshatr
Hello Prof M S Gopinathan I don't think your harse comments on SC/ST's student performance at IIT's campus make you a great person or social thinker, infact it shows the inner and outer view and attitude of IIT faculty members and their relationship with SC/ST students. It is shame on IIT faculty, whoever make discrimination on such students. Please go to the UPSC website and see the results of civil service, there are people among SC/ST's also scored highest marks and selected in the GM, they are so brilliant and most intellectual. Bottomline is SC/ST's people also have a good brain and don't worry about them, there is no need to make a special commission to study the condition of their life after IIT education. BJ

This article must be read by all the "good samaritans" sitting at the "helm" without expecting favours or partiality from the vote bank of India!!! In India we still use the terms Backward, Depressed, Scheduled, Lower. This SUCKS. We need to stop using these words maybe use Native Hindus, Original Indians or something..... Just a thought...
