False claims by BMC and all concerned
by Arindam on Jul 26, 2006 11:23 AM  Permalink

claims made by BMC and all other civic bodies seems to be a story that they want to promote. I stay in Andheri (W) near apna bazaar, facts of the matter is as follows

July 27 2005
Total Rainfall : 952 mm aprox
water level in my building : 7'

July 7 2006
Total Rainfall : 150 mm (as they claim)
water level in my building : 4.5'

so where has claims of spending crores for
- widening all the storm water drains
- 100% cleaning of Mithi and other rivers
- cleaning of all existing nallah's
gone...Mr. Jhonny Joseph do you have an answer to this

A Reminder of 7/26 & One Year Down the Line....
by Atul A Sabnis on Jul 26, 2006 10:52 AM  Permalink

Today is the Fateful Day when One year Back hell was let loose on Mumbai & Maharashtra. Today the Sad memories of all those who lost their lives call reminding us to think where we stand.

What crime was theres for they had to die, was it not a pure negligence from the Govt machinery. It was & will always be the GOVERNMENT'S responsibility to be prepared for all types of adverseries & have a firm action plan, to tackle things. Why is it that the Government has to wakeup after an huge death toll & pay compensations to the families of the less fortunate, do the politicians think that the money offered is a proportionate mean to reimburse the loss of a human life.

Even on 7/11 the same negligance till a toll of 200+ lifes & proved that no matter what life in Mumbai is CHEAP, no issues if the population count goes down. the gap will be filled in by the needy, so the lack of a proper disaster management plan is infact acting as an Employment exchange, for which we should indeed be thankful to all those involved in the sucessful operation of the failed policy makers..

Today I on behalf of all the Bolggers pay a sincere Tribute to all Mumbaikars.

Salam Mumbai / Jai Maharashtra.

The More Mumbai Changes , The More It Remains The Same
by Atanu on Jul 26, 2006 10:12 AM  Permalink

Three of us started walking from our Worli Office at 5 pm to our homes in Andheri.Along the way, like many others we waded thru knee deep, waist deep and neck deep water!! No wonder we took a good 12 hrs to reach Andheri W{inlcuding the 2 hr wait at Milan subway where local people (bless them God) served us food and water}!!! Milan subway was a frothing river in spate and one couldnt make out the difference between Juhu aerodrome and the sea.In Andheri W I was shocked to see that Veera Desai Road has metamorphosed into Veera Desai River!!Since 26/7/05 Authorities indulged in a lot of damage control which,as we see, turns out to be a complete hogwash!Hogwash because on 1 & 2nd July again Veera Desai River reappeared with vengeance. Is this what we pay taxes for? Is this what we deserve? Mumbaikars are most law abiding, most hardworking, most helpful and best natured. We have been taken for granted and taken for a ride.Where is Delhi today and where is Mumbai in terms of development and infrastructure?? Mumbaikars please do wake up.BMC elections are round the corner and its a golden oportunity to rise above petty politics and do something for the city which we all love so much!!!

26th JULY is not the only one....
by Janak Kishorekumar Pandya on Jul 26, 2006 10:06 AM  Permalink

Everything is possible in this CITY. IF GOVERMENT LIKE TO DO.

Look at the roads are worst then ever. Why our GOVERNMENT/BMC starts repairing the roads and sewer line in the middle/ending of the summer season? WHY NOT IN THE START OF WINTER? If they do the same they can be able to finish there work within time and by doing these MUMBAIAs' will also get proud, that at-last we have MUMBAI as a MUMBAI(SHANGHAI).

No use cribbing
by Prashant on Jul 26, 2006 09:53 AM  Permalink

Iam not a Mumbaikaar..But still Iam pained to see one of the supercities bearing the brunt of such stupid management..I see people cribbing over the system..But who is to blamed? Influx of people is rising day by day..Mumbaikars instead of cribbing should put their heads together and think as to how to solvethe problem..what is needed is acommon platform, probably a NGO..which is for a common cause.

26/7..
by mehul on Jul 25, 2006 03:08 PM  Permalink

Looking back at the day that was last year, all i wish to say is i salute those many people who braved the rains, helped others, did charity etc..The thing about disaster management still continues to flood the dailies n it will till one day some calamity of tsunamic proportions strikes the city again, coz only then the authorities will or might take notice of whats going on. We citizens r the actual superheroes & its just a matter of time before something solid shakes up the authorities..

But let me ask..ARE WE ALL STILL BOTHERED ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO STEP UP THE DISASTER MANAGEMENT?? some are, some are not.No use talkin on this..
