A bunch of crooks with shady past decide the future of this country. They should be blocked from entering the parliment. They are united when it come to their interest on the issue 'office of profit'.These characters makes me to feel whether we did right thing by opting for de'mockcracy'.

Blocking Blogs
by R N Bose on Jul 20, 2006 12:24 PM  Permalink

The government is obviously greviously in the wrong in blocking non-specific sites used globally by everyone. They can, of course, block those which are specifically objectionable, but not in this fashion. It is like chopping off the head to cure headache, or throwing the baby out with the bathwater!

What a sorry figure the world's largest democracy cuts in front of the whole world. Freedom of speech and expression as our constitutional rights, blah!

Govt is Right- Ban Hate- mongers
by M.Akhtar on Jul 20, 2006 12:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Government is right in banning the webs who are spreading the culture of hate and animosity. If you visit the sites which have been banned you will find they spew venom against perticular community, this leads to counter venom and up in Mumbai like episode.Freedom of press is not absolute it has to impose self restraints, If they are not self restraining then govt. must intervene. Similar yardstick be applicable for political parties in India.

Dear Mr. Akthar,

I agree with your views on blocking the sites which throw venom towards a particular community. This should never happens since no community spreads terrorism but people.

On the same lines, may I please know your views on scrapping of POTA by this government?

Regards,

Ashish

Is this how the Indian Govt fights terrorism?
by Vikram A Punathambekar on Jul 20, 2006 12:19 PM  Permalink

I fail to see how blocking a bunch of blogging websites is going to make our country safer and win the war against the terrorists.

Vikram.

Govt has lost it senses
by Hussain on Jul 20, 2006 12:18 PM  Permalink

Blogs are personal mind space
Govt cant curtails ones freedom of expression
I dont actively blog, but I have friends who do.
Blocking the sites will not make much diffrence as there are other ways of spreading hate messages, if that whats the govt claims the reason for spreading the messages.

this govt just playing with indians
by radha on Jul 20, 2006 12:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

woh..what a step.
withdrawing pota do not hold any water.
joining hands with pakistan does matter.
the only danger the govt thinks comes from the bloggers.
there are many sites giving anti natiional remarks do not draw any kind of attention from the govt because they r all muslim sites and mind it muslims are a great votebanks.
you cant do withoput it.
so if they will engage in anti national activists you fear to call them terrorists.
but
what a step ...
leave it disgusting.

Dear respondent,

GREAT RESPONSE. I wish there were more Indians (and Hindus) like you. We are being tortured for last 1000 years, first by Musilm Rulers then by British rulers and now by politicians. Its payback time for us. Lets stand up and vote for the right party, even at the cost of being called fundamentalists.

Regards,

Ashish
