Blocking of sites
by HM on Jul 20, 2006 12:38 PM  Permalink

Yes, it has every right of doing so.
These sites just publish what is been put by the user and user doesnot understand the effect of the same it can lead to communal voilence and even some of the terroist group can put in there view point which is baseless.....Yes there should be freedom of speech but not to extent that people can misuse the same for hatered ....

Blocking websites
by k. mallick on Jul 20, 2006 12:37 PM  Permalink

It is unfortunate that some websites are bocked. However, if the sites are misused and is detrimental to the society, what is the big deal and what is the harm then, if these sites are blocked. Freedom of expression need to be for the good of the people.

Can Sacrifice Blogs if its needed..!
by Abbas on Jul 20, 2006 12:35 PM  Permalink

Actually, its not fair to block the blogger sites. But, if its going to kill the communication to the anti-peace groups, then we can sacrifice anything(blogs are just to share our feelings)...

Ministry is a group of fools
by Ketan on Jul 20, 2006 12:35 PM  Permalink

Our Govt. does not know how the internet works. How many websites are they going to block ? Can they block emails too ? There's no logic behind this move. Blocking websites is not going to solve their problems... Utter nonsense.

This is just some action to show they are doing something (of course non-sense) in the wake of so many failures/issues like blasts, quota-row, ... the list is long. And bloggers have been showcasing these failures. Govt. calls these expressions 'provocative messages' ?

Yes, Democracy does not mean you have the freedom to say anything and do anything .Anything that causes inconvience to others is not democracy.I appreciate the govt for doing this.

Govt right in blocking sites?
by Ashish Tikku on Jul 20, 2006 12:31 PM  Permalink

Nothing in this world is absolute but relative. Do you think abusing Indian law, Indian flag, National bird, and President will correspond to Freedom of Speech? Answer is No. Anything that can lead to communal violence or tension cannot be termed as Freedom of Speech. People have to have restrain while writing blogs and airing their view. In absence of strict cyber laws or process in place to prevent what goes out to public therefore banning is the last resort. But I also believe banning such blogs wont alone solve the problem but innocent people getting mislead and provocative reading such views after an incident will definitely prevent situations getting out of control. Most of violence after an incident is result of provocation.
