Blocking websites
by Jagpreet on Jul 20, 2006 12:59 PM  Permalink

With rights come the responsibility, and if some who are not responsible help spread the poision in any form which can damage goodwill between people; it is ok for government to control that media. But the same people then cry for freedom of speech and expression.

blocking sites
by Parwan on Jul 20, 2006 12:57 PM  Permalink

Of course the government is wrong in blocking these sites, there are more sites than the government can ever block - trying to stop expression of speech in the age of the internet is impossible & once again India looks foolish in the eyes of the world & in the eyes of its own citizens. The majority of users of blogspot.com are using it for the reason it was created - communication of their personal news to family & friends.

Lets ban cars because terrorists put bombs in them!!

This is the most immature thing I've seen from a govt...
by Arif Moinuddin on Jul 20, 2006 12:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

How is blocking a few web sites going to make India a safer place? I'd be more concerned about the victims of the blast if I was Premiere, not about a bunch of URLs created by some narrow minded bigots.

Besides, the govt. seems to be unaware of such things called "proxy servers." There are near infinite amount of them available out there and anyone who can breathe can use a proxy server. So, the govt's action is futile.

Going "ban crazy" seldom solves problems and it's a clear cut sign of governing incompetence. It's an unnecessary diversionary tactic. The govt. is unable to react to the crises properly, so they're creating a "Dr. Feel-good" image that they are actively going something.

Trust me, banning sites does nobody any good. If we curtail freedom of expression, then why did we bother winning independence from the British???

Country's safety is First !!!
by Venkat on Jul 20, 2006 12:52 PM  Permalink

All the blogs must be under watch by some "Security Team". Web is the easily accessible media, and can spread a good/bad message within seconds to the whole world.

So WATCH is very imp, and if get doubtful GOVT MUST BLOCK that site.
Who own the site, who is responsible for the content is very much imp to check frequently atleast for 1 to 3 months.

SHOULD GOVT. BLOCK SITES
by ASHOK on Jul 20, 2006 12:51 PM  Permalink

Blocking site means that Govt. wants to conceal some facts or views. In fact, if Govt. does not let the people think in both ways, for & against, it means, Govt.does not want to be questioned which is against the basic law of democracy. The better way will be to let the freedom of website remain and Govt. should streamline its system to reply back (on its website or connected website) on all provoking statements as made on objectionable sites.

Freedom of speech!!!
by Mahir on Jul 20, 2006 12:43 PM  Permalink

Introducing Blogs to the world bring lot of writers and that too they expresessed in their own native language viz hindi, tamil etc...

Some blogs expressed the sins within thier community and it helps them to know the new points in different view and eradicate those sins.

Some bloggers perform well than the professional and more experienced writers.

Banning of Blogs is banning of Freedom of speech which is anti constitutional, anti democracy.

Blocking Of Sites
by Capt Pravesh Diwan on Jul 20, 2006 12:43 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

History has proved an incompetent state will hide behind excuses of security to block every form of freedom of speech. An efficient state has nothing to worry for any hate propaganda will die its own natural death. The recent bomb blasts has exposed the gross incompetence of the administration and the political class. Perhaps Mr R.R Patil can disclose the amount of time/resources/public funds that have been spent on closing down the bar dancers vis a vis the amount of time/reources he has spent in ensuring the security of this city. By the way does this stae have a Chief Minister???? He is best known by his absence who ensures his survival by waiting to get his diktat from Madam in New Delhi. An incompetent spineless human being. Does Mr Arjun Singh have one natioonal constructive issue which will unite this country. He is an expert in dividing this country. Where are the communists now ?? Waiting to hear from their masters in China?? They wanted to take care of only the Malyali speaking injured people of the b;lasts.Having said above, we are to blame for electing these people. It is about time people who genuinely feel for this country take part in the affairs of this country
