Those who died that bleak evening were people from all walks n strata of society. Some were lone bread earners, some were the only child, some were doting parents... On top of it, we print an article relating only to the wealthy Diamond Merchants who perished?
Bravo Rediff! This is the least that can be expected. A tragedy of multifold magnitude has hit Mumbai once again. It has done in the past n will keep on encoring in the future. Thanx to our infertile politicos n leaders. And for that matter, our people's mentalities as well.
Instead, I think we should have gone to the middle n lower stratas as well n shared their woes, sorrows. That would have been more befitting. Are glitter n halo the only existing aspects for consideration in life?

Dear Prashanth, It seems that you are one of those guys who react to headlines & book titles rather than read the full stuff b4 blurting out your well phrased vocabularies!! Read the paragraph..."But none of these folk were the hotshot diamond merchants .... Freelance brokers -- like the 15 who tragically perished on 7/11 -- are the foot-soldiers of the trade. ........Others, without passes, do their trade right on the street. "They probably earn Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 a month. They often carry their diamonds tucked in packets even when they travel on the train.....Their income does not afford them the fancy flats in Malabar Hill here so many successful diamond merchants live. ....-- live in very modest homes from Goregaon, northwest Mumbai, and Virar, a satellite township of Mumbai, and commute on the local train into Mumbai every day. Some of them share flats and leave their families back in Gujarat. .....Work finishes at about 6 pm and they climb onto trains headed to the suburbs from Charni Road station and that was how 15 of them became casualties on Tuesday. Whether it be the glitter n glamour or rags, lives are lives too precious to be lost.

Nobody would have thought on your lines. You have stressed upon appropriate strong words the responsibility that media holds to the safety of the society. It is high time that media starts to view things in all aspects and then write stories.
Thank you. I am in the diamond and jewelry industry. What you have done is a brave job. You have made a low profile information public. People tucking in diamonds in their pockets and million of trade within 2-3 kilometers. So now we will have robbers, terrorists eying these two three kilometers. To earn your bread and a stupid story you are putting innocent lives in danger. Sometimes its better to be quiet. Why dont you media people just shut up. No one is really interested in what you guyz have to say. Its a day to day messege that you give like a postman and nothing more. You people are no use to the society.

To shout abuses at media is like pigs who dont like to be disturbed in their slay. The fact is that big time robbers will always know where to find their booty. Do you think that the thousands of gangs in Mumbai dont have any idea where you operate from?? The Amsterdam diamond area gets so much of publicity on major channels like Discovery,CNN,etc so what bad has the media done covering the Indian diamond trade. Many common Indians dont even know that the richest Indians are the diamond traders of India.The biggest conmen themselves are part of the diamond trade. Though the news is a bit off focus, more so mis-timed any information is always welcome.
My heartiest condolence to all the diamond merchants who lost their lives. May their souls rest in peace. May God bless them & their families in these tearful moments.
About a few months back I used to take same train from Santacruz to Borivali and happened to see these people at Santacruz wherein they were full of vigour and enery and really talked about everything other than diamonds. The attitude showed their trade. They prided on their culture, treated people with respect and was prompt in distributing anything they brought along even with strangers.
It is unfortunate and really feel sorry for their family members well wishers and friends.
