Comments, Observations and Suggestions
by Yogesh on Jul 14, 2006 07:29 AM  Permalink

1. It felt good to read this article. It felt good that patriotism hasn't died in journalists. It felt good someone in the media taking a tough stand. The author falls short of giving doable suggestions but then how many policymakers will read this article and responses? Chances are none and may be the author was just venting out his frustrataion. I STAND WITH the author. While media can't make policy decisions, by expressing in articles like these, authors can force the "interested people" to think and introspect.

2. My heart bled and I wept. It hurt deep. Why Mumbai? Why India? Why innocent people? But then there are places and situations in life where using logic becomes illogical.

3. I have muslim friends. One of my best friends is a pakistani muslim. I know most of the Muslim people are good. May be 1% of them are bad. Really bad. My question to all the muslim population is this: If we were to bomb and ruthlessly kill the muslim/simi/Let leaders who perpetrate voilence, will it be looked upon as an action again those small deviant group, or Islam? Chances are that people will look at it as an offensive against the entire muslim population.

Weak India
by Ritesh on Jul 14, 2006 07:14 AM  Permalink

One can not but agree with everything the author has said. The opinion makers in our country are the educated "secular"minded people. While secularism is definitely not bad, I feel that most poilcy and opinion makers in India suffer from some sort of inferiority complex. For if you are too busy thinking what others will think of you, will you ever be able to screw up the courage to hit back when you are hit??May god give us some guts.

Excellent Article
by Amit on Jul 14, 2006 07:09 AM  Permalink

Hi all,

even i agree fully with the article same as all of u, but we must also know that nothing will be done. we all know our constitution, there will b case filed on the culprits, if they are caught, & it will take ages to get the result. Our constitution can be changed for quota, just to get the votes, but cant be changed for the culprits who has done this CRIME.I think its high time, we shud simply take some fast action against people like them for killing innocent people.

Priming people to be hardliner.
by Munthasir on Jul 14, 2006 06:56 AM  Permalink

Two columns in two days, seeking 'vengeance' for attacks carried out on Mumbai. Who is culprit ? I know for sure my national identity would be questioned for asking that question. Shouldn't i have have known by this time ? How can i think, it could be anybody but 'mindless' ,'barbaric' 'terrorsists' supported by ISI ?

Lets go choke out the funds, lets go kill them. Investigation hasnt been completed yet. Only trends of accusation is emerging. Are we not following our hatred for 'those' people, whoever they are ?

THe whole scenario seems to be similar with what's happening with AMERICA or WEST. Priming people with fear, hatred & pseudo patriotism. We can do anything we want in the name of Justice, while the whole picture is murky, huh ?

Shame be on me for being unable to stop any of this power politics played in Media. Shame be on you for calling war based on your perceived Justice. Shame be on all of us, for falling for the trap and being super righteous.

Great work
by Sandip Joglekar on Jul 14, 2006 06:27 AM  Permalink

I get a feeling that except for the pseudo seculars of Shabana Azmi kinds every common man will agree.
We saw and heard her spitting venom for political parties - read BJP a day back on tv. Now I am curious to see her remarks on Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav's comments on SIMI yesterday related to blasts.

We see all such votebank politics coming in the way of our countries progress and security every now and then and we do not have really any solution on this.

To add to all this nonsense we have Al-Queda to getting added to the terrorist gangs in India.

congress are terrorists
by R.Vijayann on Jul 14, 2006 06:18 AM  Permalink

I do remember telling my children, when the congress assumed power. Brace your self for civilised terrorism. You have a govt which will live off you to promote terrorism legally. It will do every thing in the constitution to bend the rules to suit terrorists.

You just have to read between the lines to know. The Media is also hugely responsible for the terrorism. The way they Hindu bash, and applaud minorities makes one quite sick. Where is their secular voice? no use condeming.Issue bold statements so that the children of India can awake and kill these leeches of our society.

Rv

Not that India dosent have the will and whim to fight terror. We dont have real patriots ruling India. Just look at what Gill did in Punjab. Single handed he rooted out terrorism there. We have enough heros, but will the congress let them act?
