Enough is enough!
by saru on Jul 13, 2006 10:07 PM  Permalink

If it was known that who is the enemy or which group or groups are responsible for these barbarous acts, their would have been no suffering at all once these people were punished for their deeds. But truth is in today's world their is no country or city that we can call safe, its because these people who are responsible for these inhuman deeds are not enemy of one particular cast or religion, they are infact enemies of human kind. But still if we say that we really dont have any idea who is behind all this, its ok only for this mumbai attack as till now their has been no claim from any terrorist organisation and neither there is any immediate clue that point finger towards one such terrorist group. But on whole dont we know who are responsible for this, its the people whom we either know by name of terrorist or jihadis or dont know how many other synonyms. When America faced 9/11 it was catastrophic for entire world and with mere specualtions they took over iraq..whether it was right or wrong i just can comment....but what abt india? Will india always sacrifice the lives of its innocent civilians to maintain their political harmony witn rest of the world.

Enough is Enough !!!! Is it really ?
by Subhash on Jul 13, 2006 10:05 PM  Permalink

People always get the Government they are worth of. Indian people have become used to taking everything lying down. Its only after such tragedy, that people come out with strong views of taking revenge, but within a few days everything calms down, Goverment knows it & hence is really not worried about the common mans reactions & wishes.
Repeatedly we citizens have voted in these spineless, gutless governments who depend on so called western allies to give their consent for any action forget about the action even strong wording from the government requires permission of the allies. By voting in such governments we are insulting ourselves and our motherland. If we really care for our motherland & really want to end this terrorism thats been inflicted on us, its upto us to rise & force the government to take the fight to the very doors of those who are inflicting it upon us. We will have to force the government to take action to protect its civilians & not hide behind false garbs of human rights issues while they travel safe in bullet proof a/c vehicles with escorts. If the Government is not capable of taking this step then its upto us to take it to task & kick it out.

I agree with Roby's comment. And I think the best response Dr Singh made is that this is a time to be calm and not get carried away by rumors. I think the leaders of India today are sending the right message across. They need to handle the situation first before playing the blame game coz the blame game could only make situation worse. We have a peace treaty with Pakistan and I think thats the best thing that has happened after Independence and we need to maintain it and never get into a situation like Israel-Palestine, cos once we do there is no turning back.

We need to work towards securing our borders and do serious house-cleaning because many of our problems lie with in. Mumbai has a big underworld and we need to eradicate them and secure the city. I think the USA is doing a great job in their homeland security. That is definitely something that we should learn and implement in India. But going and bombing a country just because you think they might have WMD is sheer lunacy.

The writer wants war, yes, let's go to war right at home -- let's tackle on a war-footing deplorable living conditions, which includes the `cattle car' state in which Mumbai's commuters travel, each day, to earn their livelihood. What about our hospitals, just the front `lobby' if one may call it so, is enough to scare one away. I'm thinking of the thousands of dying and injured, who are currently spending forced time there. It makes one want to be sick, except that one can only do so at one's own peril.
I'm sick of listening to India is booming, wish, we were brooming more. One wishes residential developments were planned and there were no troubles with water supply, electricity and cooking gas. One could go to war over paani, roti, kapda aur makaan, which aren't just the prerogatives of the educated employed and the elite. These should be a given for the lowest of wage earners. One wishes one could go to war with the entire greedy builders' lobby. Declare war upon greedy officials who allow building on unauthorized land and then hold hapless residents to ransom even as they are paying off their housing loans. That's enough war for all of our lifetimes.

Ms Bhagat, I salute thee.

I was so moved after reading your views, especially after reading the appalling views of the rest.

I would just like to add a few more wars to be fought - war on child labour. No one seems to be bothered about children begging on the streets, no one seems to be bothered about child abuse and the way little kids are forced into prostitution. All these people making statements of bravado about war seem to be absolutely fine with Kamathipura in our midst, or giving that fifty rupees bribe to the cop.

We are decaying. And young frusrtated youngsters picking up arms to becoming terorrists is the result of our failiure to fight these wars on social evils.
The dirt is within, no puprose in glamourising war with another country.

By the way, Hey Rediff, why are you provoking our guillible youngsters into wanting a war. Cant you see how easily they can be waylaid. You are putting great stress on their impressionable and already constrained minds.

Fight Aggression with Aggression
by Sanjay Kelvadi, Melbourne, Australia on Jul 13, 2006 07:22 PM  Permalink

Suresh Shivaswamy is fully justtified in his stance. We have never been an assertive or aggressive nation as is shown in our pathetic display in the sports arena time and again. This has been our belief from Gandhian times when the principles of non-violence,which had its strong points in another era, are no longer effective and have pervaded our lives that we cannot lift a finger when opposed, while our own epic Ramayana shows how a villain out to destroy is finally hunted down. When a state which withstood the terror of a Veerappan, someone in his right mind finally drew a line and said he had to be brought to justice dead or alive. The same ruthless war must be waged against these barbaric and fundamental extremists, tsking the example of an America staunchly defending itself in a similar crisis

It high time
by Indian on Jul 13, 2006 07:17 PM  Permalink

India pretends to be a powerful, democratic country but has no might or will to deal terrorism. It is simply disgusting to deal kashmir issue or Pakistan or their Middle East Terrorist bros with peace and dialogue. We have been extremely foolish to believe non-violence can solve practical problems. It is military might along with diplomacy that can get the faceless enemy on their knees. Life of every citizen in our country is priceless but most Indians consider that a country with more than billion can afford to lose its citizens. It is a shame that every one of us choose not be united in the grief of those who die or suffer. So those who suffer are left alone in pain to deal with the rest of their lives while we forget these blasts after some time. For those who suffer only solace could be if these terrorists are nipped in bud and killed mercilessly, their organisations drained for money, supplies and with nowhere to run.

Enough is enough
by RSSodhi on Jul 13, 2006 06:57 PM  Permalink

What ever the writer has written in this article is true. We Indians can say one thing that our Govt. has not enough gutts to tackle the situation. Every one knows where lies the roots of terrarism but the question is who will bell the cat?Just remember the attack of Arabs on Isrial players and they immediately took the action,Even America supported them. Then why cant India is hessitating? We are arresting the culprits but no action Why cant we go for fast track courts for these culprits and just shoot them. Why we are feeding them in Jails? When the culprits are doing all these bloody acts why the Govt. cant do the same?We are spending much on the proxy war. When we will learn to live with pride. Every one knows that now America and other countries will advice India not to take any hasty step but its the right time for the Indian Govt to decide what to do . But it is certain that our present Govt. (Previous govts. too) is spinless. we cant expect any action from our selfish leaders who are after their chairs only.May GOd save our India.

identify, prove & kill them
by SHIV on Jul 13, 2006 06:47 PM  Permalink

Its Really Enough. Just as Americans have identified the terrorist bases in Afganistan, India too needs to show the proofs to the Security Council & attack the terrorist camps outside India, particularly Pakistan & ever-emerging Bangladesh.

Even Israel is not afraid of anything. Then why India has locked hands?
What's the use of having such a big & highly-rated army & arms + amunitions.

I think every Indian will support the step of Indian army ruining the terrorist camps anywhere in the world.

comment on the stories-1
by shahid Iqbal on Jul 13, 2006 06:25 PM  Permalink

Anger against thsoe responsible for Mumbai blasts are natural. Most of the writers on this subject were found extremely critical that why India was not taking action against the enemy- Pakistan. While most of the writers believe that either the Pakistnai state is involved in these blasts or organistaions have roots in the country. They are firm that Pakistani government was providing funds and arms to destroy India. I simply suggest that think about the following before blaming Pakitan:
Who is trying to destroy Pakistan as the country has been facing series of bomb blasts for two decades?
Why Indian authorities do not look on other sides? A number of Indian states are struggling to get independence and they could be involved in this kind of henious crime.
Is the Indian society is free of extrmists? The Hindu extremits have not shown their power when Ahmedabad was rocked? The same people can not do these blasts? If Kashmiries were involved why balme Pakistan? why not India which has half a million armed forces there fighting against separatists?
