AIMS - intereference
by v.srinivasan on Jul 06, 2006 10:20 PM  Permalink

It is a pity we live in this era of Selfish and money-mongering policticians. No longer Congress is a party of freedom fighters, but a party of buracrats and businessmen. Investing lakhs and crores in election they mint money within an year and talk of discipline and ethics. The uninion health minister is successful not in his profession(a medical doctor)but in ministrial capacity. But it will certainly backfire, since his father also talked of many to save TAMIL language, as a SAVIOUR and lasstly kept quiet after a news reporter's rejoinder. we will see?

Presumptions
by gaby on Jul 06, 2006 10:13 PM  Permalink

Mr Shenoy presumes quite a few times. Why does he repeatedly claim that AIIMS is the cram of the Medical profession in India. Where is the evidence base for that. The fact rather is that it was the most funded Medical Institution in India. Research mandates that funds should be raised by the faculty whereas AIIMS survived on government largesse which lead to the autonomy plank a mockery. Let us admit that if the Health minister has to get to this level then there is something fishy in the whole place. The strikes are simply a sign of of the medical profession and indeed all hospital related professions going mad- witness the tortous denials of the Apollo Hospital less than a fortnight ago. It is I admit too much to ask the media to become less sensation seeking but actually exhibiting symptoms of the same madness- this is rich indeed.

Sacking of Venugopal
by Ramdas Iyer on Jul 06, 2006 10:13 PM  Permalink

I have had the opportunity to personally interact with Dr.Venugopal on a few occasions, and he had , on all such occasions, come out as an extremely arrogant person. But all said and done he has 2 great deeds to his credit. The first human heart transplant in Inda and the furtherance of stem cell research. Also, whatever may be the faults of Dr.Venugopal there can be no comaparison between him and Anbumani Ramdoss. Institutes of excellence in research should be let to function in peace and not threatened just because the government funds it. It is not actually the government but the people of India who fund it. And if the people of India die for want of medical care the in betweens like the health minister are to blame. It is not humility and subservience that one looks for in ones surgeon but skill and innovation and brilliance.

I really appreciate your positive journalism. Inefficient, unelected ministers from parties whose only base is caste, is ruining the country.
it calls for mass reaction

AIIMS has been wounded
by Jasvir Singh on Jul 06, 2006 09:39 PM  Permalink

Our ruling politician have become law unto themselves. They think they have the divine right to do whatever they like. They have no respect for any institutions whether it is democracy or AIIMS. For them there is no meaning of autonomy of any institution and they would like to pack all institutions with their sycophants. This was done in the case of election commission when Navin Chawla-a family friend of Mrs. SG was made the election commissioner by Manmohan Singh and now our Health Minister is doing the same by sacking the AIIMS director. Our politicians are more feudal than the maharaja's of 500 years ago.
