This is probably not the first time he has interfered with the functioning if AIIMS. He made a surprise visit to the ER (Casualty) of AIIMS and had informed th press that he was gonna go for a "surprise" inspection. In the casualty he started ordering interns and PGs (who by the way are among the top 30 best students in the whole of India) on how to manage cases and embarrased himself when he was asked not to interfere by a house-surgeon on duty in front of the entire press. Now he goes on to bother the other end of the hierarchy - the director- since he wouldnt budge to the pressures of his devious political motives. I am ashamed of Indian politics...and we claim to be the world's biggest democracy...I would call it the world's biggest HIPPOCRACY. Please Mr President as an Indian Citizen, I urge you to interfere rather than being a rubber stamp. Dr Kalam, our commander in chief and head of state is one of the smartest men in the country. please if you love India and if you have a conscience...we citizens implore to take urgent action and draw the line before we lose at least two of the clauses in the preamble to our constitution SECULAR and DEMOCRATIC. Good luck my fellow citizens
Mr. Shenoy while writing about how AIIMS has been harmed by the actions of the health minister, you have conviniently chosen to ignore the politicking indulged in by Dr. Venugopal during the anti-reservation protests. Dr. Venugopal if you remember had subtly supported the striking doctors.
Also how about the charge levelled against him that he is raising the matters that are to be discussed in board room in front of the press? You have not spoken about it. My two paisas on that is Dr. Venugopal in a desire to become media celebrity (which is so easy to become these days) has exceeded his brief and brought disrepute to himself and the organization that he heads.
It is very unfortunate. Its sad these modern day caste politicians trying to destroy great institutions that born out of dreams of our forefathers
Dr.A.Ramadoss is arrogantly well positioned. He must be having a subtle support of DMK leader. His party rallying behind his father will brutally back him. His father-in-law, Mr.Krishnasamy is Tamilnadu congress chief. What more he need to worry with a puppet pm.
IT IS A POWER HUNGRY DOUBLE STANDARDS FAMILY
The same Ramadoss family shouted hell against Jayalalitha when she stopped salary payment for striking workers of Tamilnadu Government. NOW WHAT THEY DO???
Big ramadoss asked his party men to whip him in public if any of his family members come to power or become minister. Now they have one who has no experience , no loksabha contesting but a back door entry and directly coronated as a minister
They ask other tamilians to read tamil and agitate to implement tamil medium schools alone in tamilnadu. But their children learn in convents. Why not his children join DTEA schools in Delhi where you have Tamil?
They donot keep tamil names either. His daughter's name is Sangamitra?? Why not keep a tamil name like "Karuppayi"
In India every minister is taking the pulblic for granted. This is an incident where a minister is trying to show his power to one of the dedicated and intelligent person. The minister should be brought to his knees and no wonder, strike is the only way to get it done. It's good that now people in India are waking up and are raising their heads.
I think that article by Shenoy was just his own piece of imagination rather than the actual fact. What right have the doctors got to go on a strike? While passing out of their colleges, becoming doctors, they take out the pledge that they would give the first priority of saving human lives above all other considerations. Where have those pledges and values gone for these doctors? Secondly, all the doctors in AIIMS are having a roaring private practice in the capital. And they dont justify their position by going on strike. I have had experiences where some of the doctors have recommended patients to visit their private clinics/hospitals while serving in the Institution. Where has the value of the esteemed institution gone? The doctors are at loggerheads with politicians thus converting their noble profession into a political tussle. Shame on these doctors.
The present situation is the worst in the recent years. 1. Reservation Quota: Doctors went on strike, but Govt doesn't care. The politicians feel they are right and they will do what they want(Why they don't dare this much to do good irrespective of Vote Bank of particular caste). 2. Income Tax: Chidambaram will introduce his own rules. 3. Ramdoss : Introduced "smoking" related prohibitions on Silver Screen. Its his personal angry over Rajnikanth. He used his power, to prove he is in upper hand. He didn't think about common-sense. 4. Ramdoss : Removed AIIMS director Dr. Venugopal. Its his personal angry over Venugopal. He used his power, to prove he is in upper hand. He didn't think about society. Politics become worst in India now. Its a profession to fulfill their EGO strategies, to earn money thru scandals. Why these politicians didn't show this strong power to do some thing good for SOCIETY. Mr. Prime Minister, where are you? In your Govt many ministers, mis-using their power. Do wakeup, and save INDIA from these Psycho ministers. OR do you still worry about your CHAIR.
Take it or leave it, there's no politician who does not have an ego problem. This is the best example and it has come out in the limelight since it is covered by the media extensively. In fact all goverment officials have bloated egos and it happens only when they get a seat of power. Otherwise they are even worse than beggars. Most people who work for politicians bloat their egos every single day. It does not help when they have followers everytime they go for a felicitation or their constituencies. They have mass following. A mass which has been neglected for decades. Politicians are looked as Gods and it's not just in the south of India but everywhere. So if a politician who has such mass following is suddenly encountered by a doctor who sticks by his values and decisions, must be really painful. If he really wants control, he should take up his place and DELIVER at all costs. Deliver in his profession too. Deliver as a politician. I'm sure he wont have the guts or the skills to take up a challenge like this.
Entire medical fraternity and general public should deplore the high handedness of Central minister in meddling with a professionally run Institute of repute and insulting a well acknowledged senior professional.
I had the good fortune to watch the functioning of this great institute for nearly four months during the making of India's first ever reality show on hospital.
I must say they are simply superb..no matter how many private hospitals come up .. you just cant beat the AIIMS..
And now looking at what the politicians doing to this institute I some time give in to the feeling.. that another terrorist attack like that fateful December one should happen and all the politician should be cleansed of this country..
I am with u on your views expressed in your article AIIMS has been (gravely) wounded.
U may hv missed one important point here that Dr Anbumani did not have any authority or permission whatsoever (including that of the Prime Minister) to treat patients at the AIIMS, while the docs were on strike?
Can any who has been deemed to be a "Doctor" just walk into AIIMS and start treating patients in the name of AIIMS without being even permission or the authority to be even an attender or intern?
