Shame India ,Shame....

Thanks to the effort of politcians to bring social justice ,in the process they started down grading the premier institutes of India,AIIMS is first to go ,what next IITs and IIMs.

I feel ashamed of being an Indian.

And we wonder why India doesn't produce scientists like before!
by R K Iyer on Jul 05, 2006 03:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dr. Venugopal is one of the world's finest cardiac surgeons. He performed India's first heart transplant after brain death became legal. Of late, he has been involved in the application of stem cells to alleviate human suffering. This is how some politicians have rewarded such a magnificient man. He was arrogant and disrespectful, no doubt, but that would be quite a one sided view. These politicians grudged him because he took the common sense view of putting merit over caste based politics. Sigh! We can continue to wonder why!

It is high time that the politicians are taken to task. India should be ashamed for letting such a thing happen to an eminent doctor. I don't think other countries will recognize the qualifications of Indian people if such a thing happens. It is only happening in India. peoplr should revolt to such a cruel act by a politician who is acting for his own self -nterest not the country. It is a shame to the whole country.

As Expected
by Anand on Jul 05, 2006 03:40 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This news doesn't deserve to be on Headlines as it was totally according to expectations. We have so competant Minister for Health who can run AIIMS on his own. Don't worry doc now that you have become politician these traits will always be in you. But be assured that you and your government has taken this country for granted and we will return the favours with all respects in next elections. Please continue your practice as you are also dimissed by People of India
God save this country from these politicians

I tend to agree that elected representatives when in power behave as dictators. The only saving grace is that no single individual can remain a dictator for life, but this is a small consolation because the dictatorial streak continues, cutting across party lines.

To remove a person of the level of a Director without as much as a hearing is to behave highhandedly.

We have a perverse streak that takes hold of anyone occupying seats of power.Once in power there is no control over our legislators except the judiciary.

Parliamentarians and legislators behave like demigods or the mythical rakshasas who drive moderation and reason away on facing even a semblence of opposition.

There must be something terribly wrong with our society which glorifies revenge and harassment of hapless victims.

Who is save us from these demons in human form.

Finally
by Prashant Bhartiya on Jul 05, 2006 03:37 PM  Permalink

This action by the Health Minister makes the situation for all very clear that MERITOCRACY will NEVER prevail in India. It is always going to be the politicians who will run this country who we sadly have voted. The politicians are supposed to be the "humble servants" of the public but they have become masters and are dictating their terms rather than let democracy or the choice of the public prevail. All of us need to unite and stand against this blatant act of dictatorship on part of the government. I am short of ideas but I am sure there will be many who can let us know what should be the most appropriate action we as the public should take against the health misnister.

Dismissal of Dr. Venugopal
by ajay on Jul 05, 2006 03:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Health Minister, you have made a big mistake of and I am sure this would be in the minds of the Indian voters during next Lok Sabha poll. This may cost heavily on ruling UPA. This dismissal of Dr. Venugopal is not good for AIIMS it is worst for entire medical fraternity. Dr. Venugopal was not only a good doctor but also wise person with concerns over social realities. India may find several health ministers like you, but it cannot find the director like Dr. Venugopal. Please stop making mockery of the constitution using powers in wrong places.

Unfortunately, you are mistaken if u assume that people will remember this and vote this party out of power in the next elections. I wish the people do that. But i know they will not. We live in an under developed economy where the plebeian masses are still fighting out their living and would value sops more than anything else. Take TN for instance, where sops like free tv won them the elections. Saddening but true... Unless the people live a good life, they won't have enough inclination to vote for the right person.
