last year at the same time the same place experienced a bitter experince . later also government didnt take any action to over come those problem . again water is on road , down area places are floode by water . our government always thinks about temporary solutions not permanent one which gives securiy to people . if it peats next year also the problem will be same because our govt is not serious about these issues .
Here is the result of BMC work before start raining there are many big talks and promises from BMC but see the actual result how greatwork of BMC has been done.Everybody could understand I no need to explain. so my suggestion is when ever they come to your home to ask for vote please see the person who is doing practical and then vote.
Reports and different incidents of people trapped in the traffic, on the road due to heavy rains and unavailability of transport started pouring in since the rains started lashing city on Saturday. However one question comes to my mind again and again "Are we not the part of the system? Are meteorological dept, BMC, Fire brigade, Govt disaster cell and various NGOs only responsible for the problems being faced? Who are these authorities we blame? are they not human being like you and me? or do they have any extra inborn power to handle the situation. We are not following simple rules and carrying out the activities like spitting on the road, throwing plastic waste everywhere, allowing encroachments, neglecting traffic rules etc and hence we face this problem. First action should be to reduce burden on infrastructure facilities of Mumbai i.e light, water, transport, roads, vehicles, communications. Remember Mumbai is an Island and we have tried to override nature by connecting it to main land from all sides and also adding land in it wherever possible. If we do not learn now, the nature will teach us a lesson by transforming Mumbai into an island again.
Its not only rain in mumbai, it is everywhere govenrment is not doing its work properly. as of now rain is in limelight and after this they will again give promise and as usual public will forget everything.it dosent matter to government as no high profile guy dies due to all this. imagine if someone like any politician or any filmstar dies, then you will see what government will do.
Well again we are in July and the usual news omes by. Sometimes i think whether this deluge, exess rains et are worth reporting at all becasue they are like normal in Mumbai these days.... and secondly I am more surprised when i see from a different angle.... the govt at both - state and central - promised that they are with "aam aadmi" and that "we will hange Mumbai in 1 year".....now we can truly understand that the the "Congress" doesn't know who is "aam aadmi" and ertainly as usual - Congress govt deson't want infrastructure to develop and were very lazy... Also the mumbaikars are to be blamed since we only choose these non-performes out of sentiments rather than facts..... Lets hope we donot hav eany loss of lives and damage to property anymore........ Hey rain Gods. do rain but because of the incompetency of our Indian govt (and Congress) please donot rain hard!!!
26-July-05 was a nightmare really. Our office is located near the international airport in Sahar and the whole area was flooded. We spent the night in office, with no electricity, no water - a harrowing experience really. I feel that this time round the govt is more prepared in terms of disaster management. However, what has the Maharashtra Govt. done to improve the roads? the drainage? the garbage?
This is not an easy problem and there's no simple solution to this. Mumbai is just a few feet from sea level which means the drains have to be closed at high tide. We need major revamp/reengineering of the drainage system to tackle this issue and investment of billions of dollars is needed to build this essential infrastructure.
I have also noticed that average mumbaikar is a highly irresponsible citizen - it's normal in Mumbai to see well-dressed, seemingly well-to-do people throwing garbage on streets. Garbage chokes the drains and makes the situation worse, apart from creating other health problems.
It might sound a bit strange but having strict solid waste disposal laws and implementing them will definitely improve the situation by at least 10% without any improvement in drainage infrastructure. One of the laws I want is a ban on plastic bags, sachets, pouches. Living without them is not as difficult as it might seem. Look the waste : 10-15% of plastic are Gutkha pouches.
