Upper Caste, Lower castes and the OBC's
by Rajesh G. Chavan on Jul 04, 2006 08:12 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The article is provoking. The statistics revealed by him;does any government/international agency endorse it?Why are the BCs and OBCs rising in revolt against the Upper castes.Who created the upper castes, the backwards and the other backwards.I blame the Varna culturedividing the society in classes followed by some section of the people considering themselves to be upper castes and others lower castes so that these hapless people can betortured and made to serve them as if they are for that task only.WHY?The successive generations also followed the same caste system which their forefatherspassed onto them.Has any body really thought of uniting the Hindu society which is possible only if the so called upper castes stop considering themselves as upper caste & the other brethrens as lowercastes. Why are the lower castes not allowed to enter the temples?Who created GOD & the temples. It is we people on this planet and when we ourselves start dividing then GOD save us!And politicians whose bread and butter is the vote bank are there sitting on the fence to cash it on the situation-stoking the fire & enjoing!Only the PEOPLE POWER can remove the inequality and not the politicians.

Marginalization of the FCs
by Vidya Ramanathan on Jul 04, 2006 07:54 PM  Permalink

I agree 100% with Mr. Gautier! I was always of the opinion, that the reaon why the Forward castes (or OUCs as per the present nomenclature) are maginalized is because we the OUCs, have never once bothered to think about the plight of this country but have been only intrested in our own well being all the time. I know of several forward castes citizens who are well into their 50s and have never once voted in their life!
I do not balme the political parties for having maginlaised this whole community to this extent.... even now there are several ppl who are of the opinion that they shall strive hard to send their children abroad rather than have them 'rot' in this country!
Unless and untill the OUCs change their mindset and think about this country as their own, many more Arjun Singhs are waiting to happen in the future.
What happened to the southern brahmins shall soon be every OUCs story in India!

RE:India - Merit or Caste
by sgpal on Jul 08, 2006 12:05 PM  Permalink
Every one seems to be talking out of his hat.The caste is asked by the schools and the police station and governmental organisation for the simple reason that the toilet tissue holders want to get the benefit of the caste certificate, particularly when the non performing sons and saughters want to get in to IIt/AIIMs scoring 35% marks. If the police register a case against upper caste for calling Dalit names, do you know that its a non bailable warrant? A dalit has to just complain to the police and the OUcs and even oBcs can be arrested with out a question being asked.I have known instances where the unscrupulous elements in that caste have harrassed the superiors in the dept.Dont talk nonsense about abolishing the castes. The OBcs The scs and sts need it very much. For the OUcs and unreserved fellows the caste certificate has as much value and meaning as a used toilet tissue, but for the others the used toilet tissue is life line. The more used the better!

need an India based on merit
by jyo on Jul 04, 2006 03:57 PM  Permalink

Hi
This article does not make any sense.
The author has experessed his opinion poorely.
We do not need statistics of how much each cast constitutes in India.
Instead of using the sentence 'O Brahmins and OUC, awake,', the author should have used 'O citizens of India awake' against the cynical government.
It needs to be understood that the so called OBC should also raise their voices against such cynicism's. They have to understand that instead of reservations the government should provide more basic necessities to the community as a whole.

It is our responsibility, The responsibility of a CITIZEN of INDIA to fight protect our Country, we have to eradicate the concept of Cast from our constitution. First step the education system should remove the CAST option when filling in a application form.

Thanks

We need a more young generation of politicians to take India forward in a unselfish manner.
by SKGayatri on Jul 04, 2006 03:29 PM  Permalink

The brahmins and the OUC treating the others bad is all in the past of the generations back. That does not imply the current generation which is so open to eqality has to repent for the uneqality that their ancestors had practised.

One of my relatives, an OUC recently married a vanniar. More than 50% of the marriages in cities are inter caste marriages spanning varied castes.

Only the politicians live in an age of uneqality and untouchability for votes.

We need a more young generation of politicians to take India forward in a unselfish manner.

Jai Hind.

OUC
by Nonav on Jul 04, 2006 12:59 PM  Permalink

Dear Francois. I appreciate your efforts on enlightening readers on the phlight of the Brahmins and Hindus. Brahmins had one policy of being strict in adhering to policies. E.g. For temples being clean. Now a days I believe in clear in mind. They were doing so many rituals at home and at temples that they had to be strict in adhering to these policies. This was meant as arrogance by other castes. There are innumerable scientific reasons for these also. Even now, they adhere to the policy first and then try contemplating the policies. The Brahmins are now in either lower middle class or just average middle class with a just income to have a hand to mouth existence. Finally, you ask any Brahmin, you will likely hear "ITS ALL GOD'S WISH THAT WE ARE TO BE LIKE THIS" and console themselves. That is how they are unheard of. Now these Brahmins would have some sort of obligation with some or other heavy weights in the village / town of India and thus he either would not vote or would vote for the party to which he is obligated to. So a Brahmin with his tolerance will go through the education and go abroad and others will be here on some borrowed income. I guess you need to go further.
