Dear Din, why is the article amusing? Not at all. People like Prafullbhai have the distinct eye to locate and eulogise persons who are worth like chaff which has to be cast off. If VPS is relevant today it is for being irrelevant!! He has brought havoc to the country by perpetuating the caste divisions in the name of Mandal Report and throwing out all meritorious candidates and youngsters who have to leave the country, though Manmohan Singh sheds crocodile tears for the "braindrain". VPS is a hypocrite, after having turned against Rajiv Gandhi for the Bofors pay off scandal, he is now backing Rajiv's widow!! What a tragedy for the country, and for Uttar Pradesh in particular, that such persons not only live long but also are given publicity by the media!
The only relevance of VP Singh - is but just a desperate bid by all these parties to try and counter the emergence of the Congress - now that Sonia and her progeny seem to have steam rolled all the opposition parties so much the BJP has become irrelevant. Typical Indian mentality - it will definitely be interesting if they do succeed - but Rahul Gandhi seems to be a very dangerous person for all the politicans even in the Congress - let's see how much these aging men will succeed against the upcoming fresh youth ?
There's a reason why the US has stable politics - there are only two major parties, and on issues of grave disagreemnts, politicians stand and fight within their parties rather than throw tantrums and join the other side or form their 'own' parties. It's a sad fact that India's multiplicity of parties, headed by selfish, selfcentered, self-aggrandizing, power-hungry egotistical and infantile politicians, serves only to further divide the masses and balkanize the state, creating, in the process near-chaos, ungovernability, instability, and a continual state of political siege, resulting in weak, indecisive govts. No wonder lack of governance is seen by all, even backward illiterates, as the gravest problem facing this troubled nation.
