Re: Actress sparks another temple row
by Rajesh Pillai, Canada on Jul 06, 2006 12:14 PM  Permalink

In which sacred text has been written that non-Hindus (NOT non believers) are not allowed inside the temple? The recent fuss about the entry of actress Meera Jasmine inside the temple exposes the religious illiteracy in Kerala. Misinterpretation of religion and customs are exemplified by these incidents. People may remember similar reports that the Guruvayoor temple authorities denied the entry for the legendary singer K.J Yesudas, whose has sung many memorable songs in praise of Hindu deities including Lord Krishna and Ayyappa. Many people know that he is an ardent devotee (you can feel from his blessed voice) than majority of our local administrators in these temples. Only in Kerala you can find atheists are controlling the administration and financial matters of temple and real devotees are kept away form the temple premise based of their religion, gender and caste.

What is the problem if non-hindus wish to do pooja and dersan, provided if they are not coming for a fun trip, and why we want to discriminate them based on their religion (no way its ones fault) than their beliefs? Why only in Kerala we are so conservative where in other states its not an issue? Even if its a part of the rituals, why it is applicable only in a few temples?

OK. You want to call it a TRADITION which we dont want to change that. Well what is a tradition? We have the proud history of changing the so called damn traditions like Sati, untouchability, widow marriage etc. Keralites are more familiar with the historical declaration by the King allowing the entry of so called lower class people inside the temple premise. If just an official declaration can terminate such a long lived weird tradition, why we are hesitating to end similar traditions still prevailing in our religion? Some of these senseless traditions wont survive the test of time and need to be changed. If needed government should bring a similar declaration allowing the entry of non-Hindu (believers) inside the temple.
Anyways, these people (non-Hindu devotees) are not going to deprive of the Gods blessings. They are closer to HIM even if they are kept outside the temple. What again hurts is about the need for a purification rite to cleanse the temple premise because of the actresss visit!!! Again, she has to bear the expenses (around 50, 000 Rs. Yes money matters!) for her unforgivable offence. Just one question: how an average hindu will feel somebody perform similar purification rite, just because you are born a Hindu, if you visit a sacred place of other religion?

Long live our traditions!!!

Rajesh

meera jasmin entering temple
by rafi on Jul 05, 2006 04:59 PM  Permalink

i wonder why people, who feel themselves as great devotees, donot follow Gods lessons. He never told
that nonhindus should be restricted from entering the temples. we must undersatnd that those people are interested in hinduism. so, why should we stop them from following hinduism. Above all,at the time when Christians are on full swing in an effort on religious conversions, these incidents may give wrong notions about Hinduism and it adds advantage to nonhindu religions.

It is really great that a non hindu has come to a temple and prayed. This should be praised. I dont know why people don't understand God is common to all.
All hindus should be proud of Meera Jasmin Chechi.

Meera Jasmin,
You are really great. I appreciate you

Thanks
Madhu

Meera Jasmine entering temple

Meera has not dome anything wrong. Hope the so called lirerate people of Kerala will not make an issue on this. Anybody desirous of visiting a temple irrespective of their religion should be allowed to do so. Tradition and other practices or rules made by vested interests hundreds of years should be discarded.

ACTRESS SPARKS TEMPLE ROW.
by Raghavan on Jul 01, 2006 11:39 PM  Permalink

Worship in the Hindu temple should be consistent with the Hindu philosophy and scriptures. there is no prohibition to entry to anybody on the basis of caste or religion ,in the scriptures and Agamas. The temples may presescribe their own rules for entry of personns of different faiths , in the interest of safety , in the context of terrorist activiteis all ove the country. But, it will be absurd to reefuse permission to anybody on the basis of religion and caste . people resorting to such atrocious beheaviour are NOT HINDUS respecting the Gods.
Remeber what Lord krishna has taught in Bagavad Gita. People may worship me in any form and in any manner and by any name . I am preent in everything inanimate and animate , even in dogs and in the scavenger. For him the stone and diamond are not different . A learned , disciplined man does not see anything except God in any thing and any being . People who have scan respect for he the Hindu scriptures , agnmas , teachings , should not be placed in charge of Public places of Hindu worship.
If a person owns a temple as his private property . he may commit the sin of preventing access toi anybody to his private temple.

Temple row

Whither India? What is happening? On one side, India is promoting itself as an emerging world force (doesn't matter if this lead is only limited to outsourced projects that too only computer related...) On the other, it is still reluctant to come out of the shadows of mediavelism.

We have monopolised god, art, literature, in fact society itself strictly on the basis of religion. Artists films are banned, literary classics are burnt, people are killed, simply because they are of a different religion.

What filth is this? Sad to say, but it's time to wake up and undergo a complete metamorphosis, India.

The latest fracas of Hindus getting incinerated because some Christian actress visited temple, is an excellent example of this. I would say that I least expected this from a state like KERALA. Kerala always boasts of high literacy rates. Why, just yesterday, I read that it has set a target to make every student adept at ENGLISH.
