Iran vote
by Arif Moinuddin on Jan 25, 2006 10:32 PM  Permalink

Utter blackmail and attempted subjugation. This isin't the first time this unacceptable technique was used against us by them.

They need our backing in Iran. And after that? We need to secure our energy reserves quickly and do it with soverignty. It might not be a bad idea to think of acquiring the Taepo Dong 2.

Who's US to tell what we should do?
by Sreeram on Jan 25, 2006 10:25 PM  Permalink

India should follow it's own policy. Supporting or opposing Iran vote is not the issue. India must weigh all the factors before taking any decision. It's not the question of US' interests or Iran's interests, but it's India's own interests...

US wants India against Iran
by SRamaswamy on Jan 25, 2006 09:53 PM  Permalink

This is blackmail pure and simple.India should consider alternatives.one is not clear as to the benefits of the so called N-deal.Did we get into a trap?
N-deal or no N-deal,we should not surrender our choice of what is best for the nation. If necessary the N-deal can be declared a No deal.
Govt should take the nation into confidence or else the public opinion is unlikely to be in favour of the Govt. There is the possibility of the Left being proved right

Are you threatning us!!
by Yom on Jan 25, 2006 09:46 PM  Permalink

It would be a big mistake if US is threatning us and blackmailing to join against Iran else the Nuke deal will be called off. US does not know the power of Indians across the globe. One thing US should keep in mind is that they(US) can never survive without Indians. Such politics sucks. According to me India should stay neutral as it is now.

We should vote against Iran
by vinayak on Jan 25, 2006 09:29 PM  Permalink

We should vote against Iran's nuclear programme because it is in our interest however we should say NO to US for their N-Deal.

We should understand that our strength lies in keeping our nuclear research (civil & military) autonomous. Once we start accepting from them, they will destroy our current capacity forever.

We should build up confidence with rest of the world as a responsible Nuclear power but should not accept help from US in any form. If we do it, we will be put in long term trouble which US had with every their friend.

US will bully each time and ask to vote in their favour even if India does not want. India will become their slave in UN.

India's interest lies into keeping relations with US up to business level. Also its in India's interest to keep low profile on world stage until it has real economic strength. When India has real economic strength, it will be in a position to negotiate rather than beg.

As far as UN security council membership is concerned, India will never get it because US and China will never like it to happen.

My dear bureaucrats and politicians please take care, don't take arbitrary decisions.

Vinayak, London

Can't let them take us for a ride
by sbk on Jan 25, 2006 09:22 PM  Permalink

If voting as we want means breaking the deal, then so be it. We can't let them blackmail us like this. Besides, the whole separation of Civilian-Military thing was totally against our interests - it'll put us behind China, and yes, we have a genuine threat from China. And after all these years of USA supporting Pakistan, helping it during wars and passing Security Council resolutions against us, we can't let them take us for a foriegn policy ride over just one "favour". I say, throw the deal into the dustbin. It has been a blackmail tool from the beginning anyway.

We don't need US nuclear help
by Cricket Fan on Jan 25, 2006 07:46 PM  Permalink

Does India need Iran gas or the US nuclear tech?
I think the former. There is a collateral benefit - political support of Islam countries which is important

This is how US plays
by Vadiraj on Jan 25, 2006 07:43 PM  Permalink

Its true that India needs energy for its economic growth. But also India has to show its self-pride now. US cannot blackmail India like this. We should show them that India has a major say in the current world scenario than the US. History has shown that US uses blackmail strategy to purse its own interest. If we play according to US this time, they will think India a soft country and starts playing with India according to their will. We should give appropriate answer at the same time decision should be from our national interest not the foreign countries. We are not slaves to others. Mr. Prime Minister if Bush don't visit India, who cares. Our economy will force him to bow to India.
