vote on IRAN
by ak on Feb 11, 2006 11:39 PM  Permalink

this is open blackmail case to get support for a wrong cause. US did same on IRAQ and result is before all. Till date no weapon of mass destruction has come out from there. I know this survey is not at all usefull as instead of indian public opinion against it, indian govt. might already have bow down to US and obilige US with what they want. But dont forget tomorrow US can play same game against India too asall world know that India is an emerging world power and US never likes any competition in this regard.

US ambassidors comment re: Iran and Nuke
by sunder on Jan 26, 2006 07:49 PM  Permalink

India should make it very clear to US that we are not the modern day slaves, and in no uncompromising term explain that we attain the world stage not at the mercy of US or any other western nations. While pouring billions and billions investment money at Communist China, India done it all by itself alone by tightening its belly. The credit to India's stand in the world today goes to none other than indians who knows how to be great. The Hypocracy of the western nations merit not credit. As a democracy, with all the shorcomings, we managed our affairs in a non-allained and non-interference way. It should remain and we should stand tall for the bullying of any one including US.

Reg ;IRAN Nuclear vote
by Mehdi Hussain on Jan 26, 2006 06:03 PM  Permalink

Dear sir ,
Why we hv to bow down under the US pressure as of now we are very much self dependent ov our nuclear technology , earlier also during The Late Indira Gandhi's time also the USa had played the same tricks but her Govt. did not bow before the pressure and we developed our nuclear fuel ,
The US is always playing double standard with Asian countries like for Israels Nuclear weapons there is no control and for India/Iran they want to sign the NPT, but no we should not be living on borrowed times in fact the Great powers are now living on our shoulders by engaging our talented manpower ??????

India should vote against Iran
by Concerned on Jan 26, 2006 03:23 PM  Permalink

Historically India had remained neutral in such issues. If this was an era during Nehru, he would have voted for Iran and in the end Iran would have attacked India with nuclear weapons.
This happened in the case of China where invitation to become a permenant member of the UNSC was turned down by Nehru to be in good terms with PR of China. PROC attacked India and even supported Pakistand in 1971.
India must take its own stand and tie up with the US. This would enable cooperation in nuclear energy and space exploration.

Iran issue
by Alok Govil on Jan 26, 2006 10:05 AM  Permalink

The US is back to its old blackmailing tricks. India should pick up the gauntlet and tell them to go to hell and vote against the resolution at the IAEA. Initially it was only the US Congress that we were supposed to satisfy, now the NSG has also popped up. If the past is the judge, the US will keep trying to bully us. We have become a nuclear power inspite of worldwide sanctions and I am sure we will be able to continue our progress, with or without the US. With India's growing economic muscle and the increasing revulsion for the US and its policies, its better to remain away from its sphere of influence

We shd go with USA
by J.N.Mahanty on Jan 26, 2006 04:01 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In my opinion, between Iran and USA, we shd go with USA.
We have seen in the past that we cannot expect any help from an Islamic State, that too a Fundamental one like Iran. We have learnt lesson from B'desh( we gave them freedom on a platter and now they are playing to the tunes of Pakis). We have seen the role of UAE, during the hijacking of IA air craft to Khandahar via Dubai. We have seen the OIC always siding with Pakistan.
It is also well known that Iran is clandestinely developing N-bomb with help of Pakistan,( although claiming to develop alternative energy, while sitting on World's third largest oil/Gas reserves) to use the same at the whims and fancy of their irresponsible Govt. Even if we maintain good relation with Iran, there is no guarantee that the unpredictable regime in Iran would respond positively.

Where as India has a lot of interest with USA, in the fields of Engineering research/development, IT sector, collaboration for latest Nuclear Energy Plants, bi-lateral trade, etc. Our IT/BPO sectors are very much dependent on USA. Thus good relation with USA will pay rich dividends.

Don't forget, going with US has a price to pay, and nothing is free in this world. There are three factors as i can see now to this deal.
1) taking over the retail market but big multinational companies such as walmart and destroying the small family owned buisness and then everyone working as a slave to these companies at minimum wage with no benefits; Companies like Mcdonalds, already wooing our younger generations by different tectics and taking over the food industry; taking over of clothing industry by the multinationals big cooprporations and things would be so expensive for locals to afford
2) Taking over the real estate as we can see it already happening farmers being forced to sell their land cheap to make the whole agricultural india into a dead cement and like in america general population living in cardboard cubby holes and working in (artifical air compartments with no natural light or air), replacing everything natural with what companies can sell, a form of corporate fasicsm
3) since China is becoming a world power so someone has to be pitted against china, since india is another new power in the subcontinent, why not pit india against china

I am not sure why the govt can't see all these pitfalls, i guess they are sold out because rather than making us selfsufficient as was gandhi's dream, the present govt is the traiter and its selling the whole country out

Be neutral in worst scenario
by Prasad on Jan 26, 2006 01:35 AM  Permalink

Americans haven't proved themselves trustworthy anytime in their history so far, so India should certain NOT vote against Tehran. On the top of that what is the gurantee that US will bow to India's demands on seperation of civil and defense nuclear issues? What is the gurantee that they will not push India to the wall to open up everything. India should be smart to play card like Musharraf.

India's support to Iran
by Aby john on Jan 26, 2006 12:48 AM  Permalink

I strongly condem US for putting pressure on IDIA to vote against IRAN. In this case, the IRAN-PAKISTAN-INDIA pipeline is of most importance to us. it's IRAN which is going to help us and not US of A. So INDIA as the world's second largest economy should not fall under US pressure and should side with Iran.
