Apparently, the statesmanship required for understanding, appreciating, and addressing the complex multi-ethnicity of the countrys population is a rare commodity in Pakistan. The evolution of the democratic process has suffered a great deal at the hands of Pakistans military, which has been motivated by its arrogance and hatred for India. It has used an aggressive approach in the region, often using deceptive and confrontational tactics, to demonstrate that it is a power to reckon with. Encouraged by the military establishment, a certain ethnic group has tried to impose its presumed superiority over others.
The Balochs, as a discriminated ethnic group, seem to be losing their patience and getting ready to use their strategic strengths against the Central Government. The Pakistani Government must be realizing by now, though late in the game, that suppressing the aspirations of people, especially select groups of people, can only be a short-term policy at best. The moral force of people gains the upper hand over military strength in a matter of time.

This article accurately highlights how Baluchistan has become a roadblock in India's attempts to acquire more petroleum (gas or oil) to fulfill its ever growing energy needs. The pipeline will only bring prosperity to everyone associated with it. But by preventing the construction of the pipline they (the baloch) ar e only pushing their unemployed people towards more economic backwardness.
Fighting for independence will only bring doom. Firstly because they may not even acheive it against a better organised Pakistani military which is supported by American men, money and machines. Secondly even if they wrest independence they will force their people into a very long period of pain and misery.
Instead of rebelling they can demand more share in the profits and cultural emancipation or recognition in their country. Through this route they get peace and prosperity.
Even if they wrest independence they will always need to rely on a strong ally to feel secure. Perhaps peace talks with Pakistan's central government will be less harmful.
real problem is that pakistan was more concerned with India's problem and took more interest to create problem for India. Doing this, pak underestimated its own problems.
Balochistan has been exploited by successive Pakistan Govts since partition from India. Although Balochistan is rich in minerals, oil and gas, it remains the most backward and poorest amongst the provinces of Pakistan. It is very clear that the people of B'stan wants to free themselves from the clutches of Pakistan.
I hope we're smart and help the Balochis and Sindhis gain their independence from the dictatorship of Islamabad. It's in their interest as well as ours.
The author has wrongly blamed Vajpayee for the Janta party foreign policy. Clear pointer to this is the fact that it is Morarji Desai who received the Nishan-e-Pakistan. He is the one who exposed all Indian agents in Pakistan. Perhaps the author thins people do not read history and he can get by with falsehood.
