Temple in upheaval???
by Shruti on Jan 17, 2006 02:20 PM  Permalink

The very concept of not allowing non-Hindus inside a temple is baseless and ridiculous! All religions eventually proclaim the same thing - cliched but true - and every human is born equal. I do hope that people in Guruvayoor will one day realise this and stop the inhuman treatment.

Srilankan First lady & Guruvayoor
by Sreeji Gopinathan on Jan 17, 2006 01:58 PM  Permalink

I think it is high time that Hinduism start opening the doors for people from other faith to pray at temples. This is the only way to propogate the profound teachings of hinduism.

shocking behaviour!
by prashant sharma on Jan 17, 2006 01:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i am stunned! what kind of people are we hindus/ i am a brahmin and ashamed to be one. we should be happy that people from other faiths are coming to our temples! instead we are denying them entry?

same incident has happened in puri also! we are on a path of self destruction as a community.

i appeal to VHP and RSS that such oriests and hate spreaders should be thrown out of the temples. WE MUST RID HINDUISM OF THESE PANDAS!!!

I dont understand why even after all the developments in human life, people still want to create barriers of caste, even for a sacred thing like worship. God never said, a christian cannot visit me. People who are worshiping should have purity at heart and i consider a man who creates unnecessary caste barriers the more impure person on earth. As long as we do not change out mindsets, we can never grow to be good people. How i wish the priests could understand a simple this like this.

Cleansing of Guruvayur temple
by E Ramaswamy on Jan 17, 2006 01:29 PM  Permalink

There was a time when animals used to be slaughtered (in the name of sacrifice) to propitiate the Gods. Our relgion has undergone a lot of change & since we do not believe in any scriptures handed down by God, there have been many thinkers / reformers including Buddha / Mahavira who have influenced Hinduism.
Even Saraswati Devi is depicted with a book in her hand to show that even She is still creating knowledge.
We dont know the reasons why there was this practice of cleaning the temple when strangers (non-Hindus) entered the temple. Considering that our religion is continuing to evolve with the times , it seems ugly & insulting (in these times) to clean the temple on the grounds that it has been defiled.

Temple in upheaval
by Ashok D Chhibbar on Jan 17, 2006 01:25 PM  Permalink

Amazing news!No wonder the politicians are able to sway the peoples moods by invoking some aspect of religion. What difference does it make whether the SriLankan first lady is a hindu, muslim, christian or whatever religion? Temples are as much homes of Gods as are churches, mosques, gurudwaras etc, & Gods dont discriminate on an individuals religious preference. Many Hindus go Ajmer sharief,Taj Mahal ,churches, Gurudwaras & we havent heard of any controversy there. So, Mr Pujariji please relax. Your Gods would have been very happy to recieve someone from another faith at His home!!

come on hindus grow up
by ashok gupta on Jan 17, 2006 01:20 PM  Permalink

I am a human and then a hindu and request and pray to all guardians of the faith to grow up and open temples of worship to everybody who in the first place go there to offer prayers and respect. God is for everyone BUT we HINDUS /THEN humans have decided otherwise.
When will all this change ? When will we treat all as equals . We behave as if we are above God himself.
wHY DO WE DO THIS ?

You have mentioned that some years ago Yesudas was barred from entering Guruvayoour Temple.
