Chicken-headed article
by Venkat on Feb 23, 2006 10:06 PM  Permalink

What sort of column is this? Doesn't seem to have a point? Mr.Auhtor - Dont sound very smart with your "chaltha hai" attitude..
if something happens to you or anyone around you, you probably would be the first person to turn around and write a column here "when the whole world was taking defensive measures against Bird Flu,we the Indians never cared about it...Are we really a developed nation?" blah blah blah!!
By the way, I am yet to read that maharastra is sheilded against any virus and all chicken are safe to eat..Did anyone hear that?

On Chicken
by dealsmama on Feb 23, 2006 09:00 PM  Permalink

Let not discuss the food habits of people here.
Who cares if u klike chicken or not. I'm a vegetarian.
I care about the lives of animals. How did you assume
that they are meant to be eaten ? Just because they cant protect themselves ? Its life given by nature. (Just as it gave you). So, when there are people who do value
the lives of animals as much as humans, please dont publish such ridiculous articles about some guy's likes and dislikes. In the larger scheme of things, it does not even matte rwhat he eats or does not.
Thanks.

This is a very ignorant article
by Ashit A. Vora on Feb 23, 2006 08:51 PM  Permalink

I am sorry to say but the writer is really ignorant about the dangers of Bird Flu. He is comparing bird flu awareness to that of hygiene. Lack of hygiene does not kill you... bird flu does!!! Yes I will say it again bird flu does kill you!!!

Rediff should not publish such articles whichgo against the interest of the public. This article franly was quite juvenile not upto the standards set by rediff.com and the author.

Give up chicken for your own good !
by Kajal on Feb 23, 2006 08:50 PM  Permalink

Human body is meant for a vegetarian diet . When we eat unnaturally , it is bound to create suffering. No wonder there is mad cow disease, bird flu , etc ... all meant to teach us something ... that is to stop slaughtering and torturing poor animals to satisfy our palate.

The earlier we learn the better ... otherwise violence and suffering inflicted on other living creatures gives us violence in return in the form of wars , natural disasters... that is the law of karma .

Better is to always take Krishna-prasadam .. karma free vegetarian diet that not only mitigates our suffering but purifies our consciousness !

Ignorance is no bliss !

Think \'progress\'
by Sriram on Feb 23, 2006 08:07 PM  Permalink

Obviously this author prefers to stay ignorant than being educated about diseases and their ill effects on human quality of life. With people like him who have the \"chalta hai\" \'tude, there will be no respect for human life and no progress by India on the world stage with regards to rising out of poverty, increasing literacy rates and eventually becoming a world power. I\'m surprised rediff.com accommodates backward thinkers like this author.

thats stupid
by kapil on Feb 23, 2006 07:45 PM  Permalink

Yes,, In your fighting spirit you can still keep on eating chicken, but understand this first "bird flu KILLS".

Bird flu is not just a fever or sickness you might get after eating at a dhaba or drinking cutting chai at lori anywhere in India. It has been reported to be fatal in two days before even doctors get chance to examine. Even Tamiflu, which is the drug believed to work against bird flu has failed in some cases.

So yes if you want to take a risk do it. But dont try to convince people to do that. After all if someone dies in India because of Bird flu, you are not going to take the responsibility. Instead try to make people more informed about what and where they should eat. Let them know what are the risks and available treatments. I am sure people will appreciate knowledge more than just a boost to "chalta hai" attitude.

I am surprised that Rediff.com even put such an article on their website. Very irresponsible.

What your point??
by Vidya Ramanathan on Feb 23, 2006 07:15 PM  Permalink

So the author is telling us that eat chikens, even if a few birds are found dead in some obscure village in some obscure part of the country you haven't even heard before (nevermind if they are the ones who sell the chikens and eggs you eat!)? He is telling us, turn a blind eye or a deaf ear and continue with your normal life, as afterall, this is India, nothing affects the middle class anyways, not untill you or someone known to you is infected with any deadly virus! Just carry on! Don't bother!
Thats exactly the reason why Indians aren't Americans and why India isn't America and will take ages before it is one (if at all it is one!).
Discontinuing to eat chiken is a personal choice, but I think one must ensure that his or her chiken is bought from a reliable source and one must know who is the source of those chikens and eggs that they consume. If possible try avoiding eating chiken outside, cook at home, so you know that you are safe.
And if one finds lip marks of another man in a 'cutting chai' glass, you can always ask the 'chai' vendor to give you a new one in a fresh clean glass! The 'chai' vendors are usually a kind lot and do not take offence to such a request.
