Kudos...brilliant article
by Ana on Feb 22, 2006 10:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Sir,
This is one of the balanced and articulated thoughts I have read. I still cant believe that UPA would steep to so low level to appease minorities for vote bank. The minister asking to behead cartoonist and getting away free, it can only happen in India. Sonia Gandhi sending regert letter to Imam Bukhari, but did we hear anything from her when Our Goddess was depicted holding alcohol ? and why should she, Hindus are so tolerant after all (??). Hindus have always been divided (You could see some "liberal" hindu posting against this article also), and that is the reason we are not vote bank for anyone anymore. Its high time we start voicing our opinion and support the cause of majority, ensure uniform civil code for one and all. I feel helpless to see muslim fundamentalists taking over this country and mean politicians supporting them...God save India and Hindus

I completely agree with you Ana...The political parties of India know that only educated masses can understand the facts...But what about the innocent Hindus living in villages...There is no mass education and politicians are making the best use of it... It is time for Hindus to voice our concern...

violence
by Tom on Feb 22, 2006 10:20 AM  Permalink

Pretty good opinion. NOTHING justifies this kind of violent response. While one should try not to hurt others feelings, it still does not justify this kind of violence and immature statements emanating from India. And how many people have actually seen the cartoons to get so worked up??

by abu thomas on Feb 22, 2006 10:17 AM  Permalink

Hi everybody,
Its said in scriptures that "what u sow, u reap" & u cannot expect a thief to look like a king or when u hv monkeys' on top, u get monkey's shit & nothing else!
Hail India's secularism. we dont' mind when Hindu Gods r not respected or when the gr8 Bush refuses to visit Rajghat or when 80 year old Muslim grandpa comes to marry 20 year old Indian Muslim girl at Hydrebad!
Now, just think of elections around the corner in some states in India and the results!
All GODS forgive us, because we are always faceless Indians ready to work abroad and not in our own country, leaves old-age parents to fend for themselves!

Indian State's fault
by Ankur Jindal on Feb 22, 2006 10:16 AM  Permalink

Education or the lack of it play such a big part in shaping a country. Politicians such as the one you mentioned will always try to leverage the latter because they know that most of their followers would not reason why. People have twisted religion to what they want it to be. People should realize that religion is not to govern lives but supplement living by providing some values. Not to say that people should turn a blind eye to it but atleast vandalism is not the way to go.

Finally a balanced article - nowadays Rediff seems to only post articles from extremists. I am from a minority community myself and I entirely agree with the author. There has been no special treatment for minorities in India as the Hindu nationalists love to shout out at every turn. However that said the Indian governments (esp Congress) have bent over backwards to appease fundamentalists whether Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian or whatever. Handing out fatwas and death sentences in a free democratic society based on rule of law and respect for the constitution is obnoxious and peverse. Nothing can be achieved by tolerating these elements who give all minorities a bad name.

Voice of Wisdom
by praveen on Feb 22, 2006 02:20 AM  Permalink

My deep thanks to you for writing this. This reflects the sentiments of majority of Indians, who since time immemorial have silently swallowed the mindless acts of this one community. It is amazing to see that they ignore the fact that India has nothing to do with this cartoon fiasco, yet, dwell in such shameful acts of destruction and looting of public property. And what do our democratic institutions do? Absolutely nothing. It's a shame that our leaders allow this to go on. And what do the majority Hindus do? Their indifference to matters concerning their country where a bunch of thugs in the name of religion make a mockery of our law and order in the country. Rest of the world is watching and they don't talk about the Muslims but they keep bringing the name India and the lawlessness permitted by the Indian authorities. What a shame! India, better get your leaders to take responsibility.
