''NO'' to chicken.
by sham thakur on Feb 22, 2006 11:40 AM  Permalink

Precaution is better than cure. Since there is no cure for bird flu, precaution is the only way. One wont die if he stops eating chicken. People should not take even 1% of the risk. If one cant live without non-veg then mutton and fish are evergreen.

¡°So stop eating chicken till the situation is completely under control.¡±

Eggs or No eggs
by MPS Mann on Feb 22, 2006 11:28 AM  Permalink

No eggs No chicken (Not even mayonnaise)till we are sure of the eradication of the bird flu. We know the virus does not survive at 70deg+ Celcius, but who wants to take chances.

Hi

I would not understand why we should take risk for no reason. Even though government says that there is no Risk is eating egg or chicken. but so many countries affected by bird flu. I think everyone must understand the importance of life and should take care of their life. I would also request to all non-Vegetarian to please become vegetarian we never know which disease tomorrow will arise.Since people are not aware of what type of diease animal those are meant for killing is suffering from.and we may get affected by the disease

Yes I do and I will eat chicken and egg
by Saikat Ray on Feb 22, 2006 09:07 AM  Permalink

It is regrettable that media puts the negative news on the front page and the positives are reported in smaller fonts in pages 3 4 & 5.

Almost everyone who knows a thing or two about bird flu has confirmed that eating chicken under Indian cooking conditions, is safe. They have also advised to stay away from Tandoris for the time being which makes sense and also shows that they are not throwing caution to the wind.

Poultry provides livelihood to thousands of families in India - this kind of panick fuelled by the media will cause them extreme hardship. It can even stop tourists coming in and considering it is an industry of 35000+ crores will have an impact even on GDP if this continues for long.

Our plea to the media is to be responsible, report the truth but be clear and unambiguous - stand by the industry and the people earning their daily bread instead of writing in a speculative manner and leaving loose ends around encouraging people to draw their own conclusions.

Better to be on Safer side
by Thendral Senthil on Feb 22, 2006 12:25 AM  Permalink

The media can give a Disclaimer if their news that Chicken is Safe when boiled for 20 minutes in 70 degree proves to be false. But who can claim a lost life.

So to be safe avoid Chicken till its safe.

Chicken
by Rustom on Feb 21, 2006 11:31 PM  Permalink

Absolutely. Apart from the risk, this is Gods way of telling us not to slaughter innocent birds to satisfy our palate or stomach.

better safe than sorry!

its being said that you can eat chicken if it is properly cooked. When you are cooking at home, you may take all the precautions but i cannot be sure of the same if i m eating outside.
And now even if the chicken has been heated enuf and the virus has been killed, after watching all the sick chickens on tv, i cannot make myself consume any poultry products.
And considering that this is not just any common infection that can be cured, its best to be cautious.
