It is not safe to eat chicken
by Radhakrishnan Nair on Feb 20, 2006 07:29 PM  Permalink

Under the prevailing situation, it is not safe to eat chicken, even though Union Health Ministry has shown a green signal.

As this is an epidemic disease .. it is better to
follow the theme 'PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE"

Is it safe to eat chicken?
by Portia.Sambyal on Feb 20, 2006 07:29 PM  Permalink

This entire Bird Flu issue seems to be blown out of proportion by vested interests of the multi billion dollar pharmaceutical companies who are using the media to create an undue scare. Bird flu has been around for eons but why is there such a hue and cry being made about it? Yes, do give information but do not frighten the populace, please!

Why take risk?
by Sarwan Singh on Feb 20, 2006 07:23 PM  Permalink

At this present scenario i feel that people should avoid Chicken & Eggs. After all, its matter of life. It is better to look for other options rather than taking risk by consuming Chicken & its related products.

Donot panic...but who brought it to Nandurbar..?
by Avtar Kaul on Feb 20, 2006 07:19 PM  Permalink

I am dot sure that the flu was released in this God forsken corner of Maharashtra by some drug company, that invested in producing the vaccine for it. It need an immediate CBI enquiry before the evidences are intelligently removed. Health ministry needs to wake up to this cruel challenge. Poor tribals will loose who have everything at stake. Maharashtra Govt. needs to wake up, if it non corrupt. We are living in a dangerous selfish world.

I read it on some UK web page, that its safe to safe to eat chicken if cooked adequately but handling raw meat might be associated with certain risks. so guess that answers the question.

Ya definetly. I'm from bangalore and see no reason why i should stop eating chicken. Well as of now there is no cases of bird flu reported here. I feel we are different from the west in certain ways....eg. we dont get scared soon unlike them who will panic when they hear news like this

I dont think it's Safe to eat...
by Satish on Feb 20, 2006 06:58 PM  Permalink

I Dont Think it's safe to eat chicken..

if the evidence is true that, there's H5N1 (Bird Flu) in Nandarbar Dist. It means that it would take no time for the disease to spread across..

Of course It is not the time to eat and show that, there is no BirdFlu in India, that's an wrong philospophy...Essentially just clinging to Feel Good factor.

The right thing now would be to educate ppl about BirdFlu; Obviously BirdFlu seems to be a probable pandemic and not to be taken lightly.

In this scneario, it is the time to check the poultry farms, purge the infected ones, treat them with vaccines..

Also NIV (National Inst of Virology) and Animal husbandry depts should take good care to involve more and should come up with vaccines, medicines ..

In a country like India where Chicken is the prominent source for Non-Vegans, It has to be resolved ASAP.

All it needs is right education and propogation of information to masses and right care. We saw how world reacted to SARS a couple of years ago. But BirdFlu seems to be more dangerous..

So friends keep safe and try avoiding poultry for a while till the skies are clear..

Blasphemy
by Anurag Sharma on Feb 20, 2006 06:55 PM  Permalink

Saying that "Eat chicken after cooking it above 70 degrees" is like saying "Jump out of the Airplane but with a parachute". It's risky but just the safely precaution has been shown. If someone is scared to jump out, then he won't (even with the parachute).
So I will not consume chicken. I WILL CHICKEN OUT.
