It is a waste of time debating on which religion is superior or inferior, oppressing or expressing. It is obvious that a Nation with majority of a certain religious population naturally tend to feel superior with the synergy that comes out of 'Self-centredness' and 'self-justification'. Anyone truly adhering to Scripture will love mankind as much as God loves His creation. It is those who are traditionally born to a particular religion who fight for their ancestors' beliefs. A sensible individual should instead seek the one almighty God by browsing into all the authentic Scriptures. God has not left mankind in darkness. He reveals HImself to those who seek him but certainly He is not expressing Himself through the 33 crores of idols of whatever the religion it is. Why not let your god fight for you or your pet religion. Why do you want to be a hero by voicing out your thoughts on behalf of your religion. Why not wait till everyone in your own religion first accept non-violence or charity or tolerance for another religion? If you have not had a victory within you why point a finger at the other. Further, each religion has it's own divisions with the same cause, Self-centredness!
What more proof is required to see the fact that any religion is NOT a path to GOD but is only nature's policy of DIVIDE & RULE.
It can only be hoped that all of us instead of fighting meaninglessly over being a hindu or christian or sikh or muslim , consider our religion as HUMANITARIAN and show love and respect to all forms of life.
When Hindus are given step-motherly treatment in India while so called "minorities" are handled with "tender loving care", do you think that other nations will have any extra feeling towards us?

The article superb, well researched and written. I shere the same views as the author. Indians in general and Hindus in particular are a bunch of spineless creatures. From the known history and alongside the Ramayan & Maha Bharat, only treachery of own brothers and close relatives are predominantly highlighted. Every one with a peculiar hair style and dress code were worshipped as Babas, Sadhus and as guiding force. This ignorance of the masses are exploited by power hungry politicians and mean minded exploiters. Hinduism is the simplest of all religions, which speaks out through the vedas, the Personal Hygene and Social Living. We are our own enmies and we degrade ourselves. Unless there is a mass resurgency with a Powerful, selfless leader to lead the Hinduism can not achieve respect with others. There is a systematic approach to undermine the Hindus and make them shift loyalties by way of permitting them to convert and marry more than one wife. On the other day the King of Saudi told that India is his second home, which simply means that he wants India to be a Muslim Country under his rule. R G RAMAN
You r right in stating that today a hindu life has no values in teh view of the west. They think that secular means support Minorities and supress majority. BUt at the rate th muslim population is growing and the cristian missionaries are converting hindus soon they will become majority.
Then I think we will get justice. BUt fro any country of society honour of otehr religion and community yeilds results.

Why to blame anyone when Hindus in there own mother land are treated as second grade citizens. First we have to make our acts correct. Hinduism is in self destructive mode with criminally high negligence. Otherwise it would not be possible for anyone to do that. I just wish my fellow Hindus wakeup from there eternal sleep otherwise this world will soon loose best religion ever practised.

I believe Western countries , at least, give you Hindus, much better respect and equality than most Hindus would give themselves.
Also, whats the point in expecting others to value your religion, when you yourself don\\\'t feel confortable with your Hindu religion due to its various sick practices (Sati, Caste system, hatred for others etc.). So, intead of wasting time in some junk articles like this one, write on some progressive topics--how to make future mind-boggling products developments by Indians (Hindus, if you want), how to achieve scientific excellency in this competitive world etc. I think Rediff should never publish like this junk article. India\\\'s future doesn\\\'t like in promoting Hindu religion or militant nationalism, but in scientific achievements, competitive advantage building, good infrastructure, corruption-less society, medical care for all, education for all, job-creation for teeming millions etc.
PKL. Feb3,2005. I fully share the perceptions of the columnist Mr. Srinivasanji. Of course, I am a secular marxist but incidentally born as a poor bania in the bimaru ulta-pradesh. I thought that newer age of science, liberal world order would redeem this old society that has been lofty in logic ,maths.,linguistics and some metallurgies and sculptures as well as brave men and women like Chabili( India's Joan of Arc)Chandra shekhar Azad who could sacrifice the last drop of their blood so that the race of oppressed Indians could breathe free.It was in London Dhingra and Halloed poet Bismil at Gorakhpur prayed to Brahman that let them be reborn to see freed-India ! before being martyred! We have of course made rich enterpreneurs ,engineers, and a few Nobel laureates in diverse fields of civilizational excellence..Hindus Dear Srinivasan cannot be kept down long...
