New Chief Justice
by Dr. K. Malick on Dec 22, 2006 07:18 PM  Permalink

While congratulating our Chief Justice, it is odd to read the headline that he belongs to a certain community. Did the media mention the community when Hon'ble justice Sabbarwala was appointed as the CJ of our country ? Certainly not. Then, why now ? I wonder if the media want to denigrade or elevate somebody by mentioning the community ? Or, is it merely to play in the hands of certain political parties ? Surely, the present CJ has come up through sheer merit, honesty and hardwork. These attributes transcend place of birth, caste, creed and colour. Why can't the media accept it ?
Let us congratulate our Hon'ble new CM and may Lord give him strength and perception to protect our judiciary and democracy which are being mishandled in recent years.
Dr. K. Mallick

New CJI
by M J RAMAN on Dec 22, 2006 07:16 PM  Permalink

That the New CJI is a dalit should have been a passing message at the end of the report. The institution of CJI is an exalted one with respect and sanctity and Shri Balakrishnan (or any person to occupy that chair) has earned that position by virtue of unquestionable merit and exceptional calibre. Let not the media go to town with the headlines that he is a dalit.Media is also another pillar of our democracy and let them not behave like our politicians.

I cannot make out whats wrong with the fellow who has written the article. You journalists, bloody you are the people who are trying to divide this country by mentioning one's caste , when there is no necessity.

DALIT JUSTICE
by ravindra on Dec 22, 2006 06:56 PM  Permalink

What a sorry state of affairs,Does any sane person know the true meaning of DALIT???Dalit is not a caste by itself but its a status of wealth which actually means POOR.ONLY POOR AND NOTHING ELSE.This rotten political system in my country has made a fashion out of this word.I love my country but not the maggot eaten political system of this beautiful country.

Why harp on his caste? Capability should be teh key.
by Radha Raj on Dec 22, 2006 06:54 PM  Permalink

I do not know why we should give so much importane to the caste of any eminent person, like the new CJ of India. Does he like it? When do we make these issues irrelevant? I think the media should stop hilighting these things and focus on his achievements. Let us build a society where cste or relgion are non-issues, except in their own houses, where some rituals may be practised, not for public knowledge.

Congratulations to our New Cheif Justice
by Srikanth on Dec 22, 2006 06:39 PM  Permalink

Dear Media..
I thankyou for giving the new about the appointment of our New Chief Justice but I am upset you have pointed out and highlighted his caste which is very immaterial for a Manlike him who overcame all the obstacles. I would have been more happy if you have highlighted the title with more about like a hard working and successful man hailing from a middle class family or something like that. Please don't highlight anybody caste or sex too much atleast not the media coz its mostly used by the netas for vote banks..
I once again congratulate our New CJI and wish that we will hear more good judgement and justice to the comman man and for the well fare of the general public.

appointment of a dalit as cj
by p.v.jayaprakash on Dec 22, 2006 06:39 PM  Permalink

well it is heartening to note the appointment of mr balakrishnan at the same time letus not overlook the merit on the basis of appointment .
the very fact that burning issue of reservations already claiming its ugly toll at the cost of merit due dirty votebank politics played by all parties with the ulterior selfish motto letus not divide the nation on caste lines as it may cost a spell proving costly for future generations .
till then lets all dream as proposed by dr kalam.
