New Chief Justice of India
by Sridhar on Dec 22, 2006 05:06 PM  Permalink

I would srongly disagree with the media on posting this article as the first Dalit CJI. This kind of comments is crap and the 4th estate should refrain from diving our country on Caste basis.

Chief Justice of India

It is indeed admirable that Justice K.G.Balakrishnan, through sheer hard work and tenacity, has risen to the high post of Chief Justice of India. But I think you should have refrained from mentioning his caste. It is high time we applaud, appreciate and venerate individuals based only on their own examplary contibutions to society rather than associate them with their caste, colour or creed. Ultimately a man or a woman will only be remembered for their singular achievments and not because they hailed from a particular caste or community.

Hearty congratulations to mr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan on his elevation to the post of Chief Justice of India. Indeed a very deserving achievement for any Dalit in India, particularly when such posts are not on the basis of reservation and purely on merit. His judgements have been historic and having very far-reaching effects on the indian society as a whole. A moment to cherish for the downtrodden masses of India who have been struggling and toiling for the last 5000 years and have been treated very shabbily by the so-called upper cast, arrogant and affluent ones. Wish him the best and his tenure as CJI may well be remembered as the golden era of Indian Judiciary for his dynamic and progressive judgements.

I personally welcome the elevation of Justice KGB to the top post. And another point particularly for the reservation frenzy politicians that

People need opportunities for basic and primary education to show their merit and not reservations. Justice KGB has shown that

Justice Balakrishnan new CJI
by labrea on Dec 22, 2006 09:35 PM  Permalink
What's all this nonsense about stating that the CJI is a Dalit? No one said he got there because of his 'Dalit' status, but rather, it must be pointed out that he got there in spite of his 'lowly' status, something really worth celebrating.

First Dalit Chief Justice of India
by B K Nair on Dec 22, 2006 04:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I read your article interestingly.

My hearty congratulations to Justice Balakrishnan.

I feel the caption is absolutely wrong. After 60 years of independence having constitutional rights for equality and fraternity, you have highlighted such an efficient and eminent personality as "Dalit". It is high time all Indians are to be treated as equal. Rules for all Indians should be same.

Politians do divide people in the name of religion, cast, minorities etc. This is only for their personal or political gains because politics has become the most lucrative profession instead of a Social Service. I do not understand why media, especially like you, add fuel to the fire.

If such divisions are continued, India may become "Super Poor" instead of "Super Power". There will be blood bath by killing our own brothers and sisters. Jago Indians Jago (All Indians please wake up).

Dear NAIR Saar,

Drop your `Nair' stuff before making such postings. If you are a Bhaskaran Kunju or Bharata Kumaran, be so, truly.
