Mumbai Immigration
by Hitesh Sampat on Dec 20, 2006 09:50 AM  Permalink

I am not surprised with the behaviour of our brothers. I do not think if Vijay had to offer some monetary tips to our every humgry officials, he would have faced such a scenario. Everyone knows that our country has an outstanding repute for Bribe earners and maybe we could rank ourselves in the top listing. I am ashamed of being an Indian after listening to this and have experienced similar responses in the past.

This is one of the reasons where in even after being some of the most successful people around the world, we do not get respect from even the tiniest countries around the globe. The reason being we do not respect our own people. Vijay I believe if you could prove the transit visa issuance to the Frenchman mentioned in your article, You should sue the personnel involved for all damages caused. I believe our consumer court is claiming of getting stronger these days and this would be a test. We mumbaikars denied of entering our own janma bhumi. Shame on Indians.

I agree

I am feeling sorry for u . The problem with India is they don't value Indians. That is the reason so many Indians are leaving country.

And although so many of us want to come back, but because of similar reasons are reluctant to do so.

I am sure the situation which u faced would have been avoided by little co-operation from the authorities.

hassles at mumbai immigration
by Ravi on Dec 20, 2006 09:48 AM  Permalink

There is no wonder if the Mumbai Immigration is like this coz this is the way they function. And I am ashamed to say that most of the official developed a habit of saluting the white skin and keeping the brother hood of our own indian just to the paper and media. All the courtesy and hospitality is just a show off. They only boast this because they show such kind of these things to white skin people. The reason, white skin people are normally short tempered and they even shout at the official and officials put a blank face and fear of gettting the issue exposed and hence be nice to them but when it concerned for our own people they hate us, may be they r jealous of us working abroad or earning dollars and actually they expect some good will from us. I came across such instances many times when the so called white skin people shouting at the high rank officials. So v have to question are v really independent?! if so then why this slavery for the white skin and why can v help and be more polite to our own people.. really a shame for the so called democracy and the officials behaviour. About mistakes how many officials are doing their job without mistakes??

Look before u leap
by American Desi on Dec 20, 2006 09:46 AM  Permalink

First of all....the root cause of the entire problem. The parents ought to have taken the visa along. You cannot just walk into a country without proper documents. Just admit that you have made a BIG mistake. Stopp passing the buck. The immigration official can at their discretion allow a person without proper documentation to stay in the country for a temperorary period. It's probably the difference in the attitude of the parents and the Frenchman that made the difference. As for waiting for 10 minutes more to receive the fax, the law is that the passenger has to be returned on the same airline that brought them to India. Obviously the timings of the flight did not allow for the extra 10 minutes. Now for the tourism part.... it's all marketing. No one actually is inviting the tourists to India. They just fall for the marketing. Cheers.

Mumbai immigration deports kids!
by Tapos Kumar Moitra on Dec 20, 2006 09:45 AM  Permalink

Kick the buts of the concerned officials. We talk about our culture sorry to say our culture seems to have been cultured and by the influence of slavery under the white skin.

I say there should be proper enquiry and the concerned officials should be taken to task and the government should see that this type of incidence never occurs.

deporting kids

Appalling! Absolutely appalling!! But its not very surprising either, none of our enforcement officials are ever taught about compassion.

Understandable, but..
by Giri on Dec 20, 2006 09:45 AM  Permalink

Your sorrow and troubles are understandable. But, do Amercan immigration treat others with a warm heart?? They just follow rules. Even if some minor issue is there, they will deport people. I know of a family, who left US after their vacation back to India - only that they over-stayed for about an hour in US. Next time they landed in US, they were summarily rejected Entry. As for French people, there may be some agreement with the French Govt.
I would say, Americans probably are most cold hearted people.
