I fully agree and can relate to the pain felt on the shoddy treatment by ones own people. The Indian Airport Officials are probably the coldest and their inhuman behaviour is barbaric
I would like to recall my painful experience at the IGI Airport at Delhi in October 2006. My in-laws were to arrive from Canada by Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt scheduled to arrive around midnight. Both are elderly and in addition my Father-in-Law in visually handicapped and needs help. We actually panicked when they did not come even 2 hrs after the flight landed.
We wanted to see the incharge at the Airport but security personnel at the airport. We tried everything and all our requests went unheard. The security would not just let us approach the Officials. What good is an official if he sits in an office that\'s in no-entry zone for the public?
As a last resort we went to the Lufthansa counter at the terminal. The gentleman made us comfortable told us they had missed the Luft because of a delayed connecting flight and were being put on an AI flight from Paris and gave us the details of the AI flight. on approaching the AI counter the person didnt even turn his head to listen to our pleas.

"EVEN AFTER VERIFYING ALL the papers. I faced this many times. Talk to those pigs on humanity"
I am sure it did, if you call someone a "pig" expect you would be treated like one too. Of course it had NOTHING to do with "brown skin" ..As a regular traverler, I have had NO hassle with US side for last 30 years and 100+ trips in US, and that includes the time when we lost/forgot and had NO documents with us.
The thugs at Mumbai were NOT doing their job, for crying out loud, these kids wiere PIO/had valid visa, a fact one can easily check even if they did not have documents with them.
I live in Ohio too, and I know I people here at the airport are very professional and polite, to everyone except those who are bigoted enough to call other pigs.

dear rajatji
no country would imprison its own people in a 'high security prison' for forgetting a visa...i m sorry to notice u r changing the goal posts by comparing how US officers treat indian citizens. the question is how would US officers treat returning US citizens?
with courtesy and consideration....however, if they did have a criminal record or they were suspicious...your favorite prison comes into play..with of course a lawyer and a trial...
MERA BHARAT MAHAN...is not just a slogan...its a mentality...its an idea..and a way of living...it should be reflected in everything we do....the first point of contact is the immigration console...
just because WESTERN embassies are inconsiderate to indians....infact, all the more reason to be even more accomodative to returning indians.
Lets consider the case of US and let\'s say one has the similar situation . The next thing which would have done is you would be deported not to the country of origin but a high security prison...
I guess the Indian custom officials were considerate
It hurts when we see our own people act against us in situations that can be handled amicably. It is shameful when our citizens are treated like this at airports, imagine the plight of common people within the country. God bless INDIA.
Iam not surprised at what happened with them, as the kind of reception we NRI's have at the hands of our officials brinks on criminality sometimes if rubbed in the wrong way.
This is horrific treatment. I am apalled and ashamed by the behaviour of airport officials. I don't know when we will shun our hypocrisy and treat humans as humans, irrespective of their color or religion or caste.
Many incident is happening overall most of the airports in India. People visiting all over the world to India and travelling to see the motherland. The respective officials from top level is always to be helpful instead of irespectful. We need to give lot of respect whoever visiting to our country and provide necessary help in that kind of suituation.
- Should given the chance
- Must give important to the age(7 Year & 3 1/2 is really innocent)
Tht is shocking..n action shud be taken against every official involved..i hope da media highlights this news..so tht no one else will suffer..don they hv kids of their own..shame on them.
You dont have your papers and you are not a citizen of India, why the heck they be allowed.
Just compare the way the USA immigration behaves with the so called "brown-skinned" EVEN AFTER VERIFYING ALL the papers. I faced this many times. Talk to those pigs on humanity.
Why do you expect India's rules be bent for a person who is ashamed of being an Indian. I see no wrong on the officials part.

I was shocked to see your comments enjoying the misery of another person. You must be originally from my native city Chennai and have the typical attitude of your pain, my gain and that too being in the software industry.
I hate to talk about racial stereotyping, but I can say that 1:1, people of the west are much more genuine than you are. Even though you accuse of being snubbed in the US, I am not sure if the "respect" you got back home is because of the dollar/money you carry. Also you must have known two wrongs do not make a right, so the question of tit-for-tat immigration officials do not exist
The reason some of the third-world nation will remain so for a while is because inspite of our rich culture, people like you have not yet evolved.

jealousy speaking. This is the kind of attitude pnly we Indians can show only to other Indians. If it were firang(like the french angle) we would have wagged our tails to death!!!
i accept this is totally an inhuman act,but i dont know why the people in north america behave like this.i have a friend from northamerica(USA)when he went to brazil he just took his flight and landed there,he is not having his visa to land in brazil, when the immigration officals queried him he said he thought he dont need a visa to go to brazil because he is having US passport.he was deported immediately.
This shows an example what is US peoples knowledge abt travelling to foriegn countries. Is US passport so powerful one.if it is why these people are getting deported. They should check thier travel agencies and respective embassies before they board their flight.

Actually, the US has a visa-waiver agreement with lots of countries. People from these countries don't need a visa to come to the US and US citizens don't need a visa to go to these countries. Your friend should have checked if Brazil is on the list.

Ya people like you congradulate officials until it happens to you.Last year when I was travelling to US from kochi, immigration officials look at my pasport and told you have a problem, you dont have ICNR Stamp(Immigration clearence not required)on the passport.Infact US govt does'nt have any such requirement (only gulf countries insist) still this fellow was behaving ackwardly. He did'nt let me go for half an hour until I said to him,i dont mind cancelling my trip but I'll make sure you'll suffer legally if not illegally.

Just to ask you a question why cant they could not have treated there indian brothers as guest. If they can treat french ppl as guest why not NRI's. Mistake happen, and some ppl were talking US authorities are harsh on brown skin, but they do give you enough oportunities to get your paper back and nto send it back like that....
