Mumbai immigration deports kids
by Sanjay on Dec 20, 2006 06:41 PM  Permalink

This is heights of insensitivity.

Even if this is a mistake by the parents, how can an idiot take that kind of action against the kids who were not at fault. All the officials of Indian customs and immigration involved in this fiasco must be shown the door and severly penalized to avoid repeat of this action in future.

Mumbai Immigration
by Vivek on Dec 20, 2006 06:40 PM  Permalink

Who arrives without passport or visa? People should find out about the rules beforehand and stop blaming officials.. Had the US immigration done something, everyone just accepts it and shut their mouth.. Jeez..

what a joke?
by senthil kumar on Dec 20, 2006 06:35 PM  Permalink

How can anyone plan a trip without taking relevant papers? Is this person tryign to be the first to be that way? Yes the authorities need to be more professional. But the affected person goes on to blame everyone but himself. I dont think that this is the first visit he is making to India....

Highly biased one-sided report
by Gayathri on Dec 20, 2006 06:33 PM  Permalink

Dear rediff,

This story has been reported only for creating sensation. In such an

important matter, why hasn't the opinion of immigrant officials been

given coverage or even considered. Atleast the laws and

circumstances concerning the situation could have been more dealt

with. The emotions of vijay and vaishali and their judgement about

mumbai immigration officials have taken precendence. I feel using the

age-old "brown versus white skin" mindset is pretty irresponsible.

Lately, I have been very happy to see the variety of issues covered by

rediff. But sadly, I do not identify with this report as accurate and

balanced reporting. It is high on emotion and lacking in facts. I am

sure the mumbai immigration authorities have a different and equally

credible version of this story. Thank you for reading.

The immigration authorities only did their job !
by P K Kurian on Dec 20, 2006 06:11 PM  Permalink

Dear Vijay,

It was extremely painful to read your side of the story about the problems you faced in Mumbai. The authorities only did their job the way it is required to be done. Accept the fact that the fault lies with you first before you point fingers at the said authorities. probably you could have handled the situation is a very respectful and diplomatic manner and could have got away with consideration away with a transit visa.

Well done Mumbai immigration authorities.

Callous nature of Mumbai Immigration
by Hemant on Dec 20, 2006 05:54 PM  Permalink

Not surprised reading the inhuman treatment of the NRI who landed in Mumbai.

I have travelled a lot and been through customs and immigration in Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai and believe me, the ones in Mumbai are toltally inhuman. They are rude, will blatantly disregard procedure and even interrogate valid travellers. It is like a police state.

I have had several fights in Mumbai and only on taking some big names have I been able to get myself through. I have been harrassed despite having all valid documents.

The immigration officials in Mumbai ought to be shot.

Immigration at Mumbai
by ramesh on Dec 20, 2006 05:46 PM  Permalink

I feel sorry for Prabhu family to have to take flight back with two kids. My cousin with two kids had similar experience last year. They went to airport to take flight to India, but airline people did not let them take the flight since kids did not have visa. I think Vijay's airline people are to be blamed more than Indian immigration officials. Airline folks should have intervened and helped Prabhu family buy more time. My cousin went home and travelled a week later after obtaining visa for his children.

parents arrogance
by floater on Dec 20, 2006 05:39 PM  Permalink

Parents are trying to cover their arrogance and stupidity. I think they should have checked the rules when they decided to travel with a foreign passport. If it was a labourer from dubai who did it I can say this could have been ignorance.
This plain stupidity mixed with arrogance---my son has US passport so that entitles him to get into any country esp India without visa....dont blaim the officials. If they had given you transit visa people like you would have never gone back to renew or validiate visa.....what will they kind of attitude? You would have gone back to immigration only when you were flying back to sweet USA....
