I am sorry to see this happened to two children. What will they learn and take as an experince about their homeland? if it was vijay or his wife - ok may be they could have been sent back - they are adults and can take that kind of decision for their mistake - but two kids ?? Shocked and cried..

Geez
by Ani on Dec 21, 2006 05:04 AM  Permalink

how stupid can these people be... its not the Mumbai Airport Authorities fault. It is the stupid parents fault who forgot to get visas for their children.
How can u take such things for granted and say that "oh beacuse we are indians from india its all good."
There r certain rules and regulations to be followed by the officials and also the pasengers. Now if the passengers break that law and the officials allow this, then people will blame the Airport Authority.
Day and night we read about people coming back from abroad making a rukus in a flight or doing something wrong inflight or at an airport and then complaining about the way they were treated to get sympathy and support.

I am in the US right now and I make sure i have all my documents ready before i trjavascript:validate()
javascript:validate()avel. Thats the law and we have to live with it irrespective of our nationality.

Shame on the parents for forgetting about their childrens visas and then blaming the Mumbai Airport authority for following the law!!!

It is just your mistake do not quote as White SKIn offical etc..
by Raju on Dec 21, 2006 04:58 AM  Permalink

White Skin mentioned is different here. European nationals do not require Visa to India. They will get Transit Visa as per rules. Where as US Nationals require Visa.

Vijay mentioned it is mistake. How come it happens to 2 kids. In case if he forget to 1 we can think it is mistake. But seems to be small thought about India seems to be there. It is same every where.

They should have given few more minutes. But The officials are right here. It is happens the same way in US too. Did you challeneged any time US Immigration. Never try ones you will come to know.

Who is to blame ?
by nia on Dec 21, 2006 04:54 AM  Permalink

All of you brainless people who seem to be shocked at the officials in Mumbai, any country will be strict with respect to visa or any legal issues. They are VERY important whether you are a VIP or anyone for that matter. The Mumbai officials have only done their duty. If there is no strict law you people whine about it and if there is, you people still whine about it. One has to learn the lesson that you just cannot get b in India anymore. And btw, how dumn can you be by not carrying legal documents when you travel abroad? Grow up. This is not inhumae, its just the duty. ONly because of you people India can never make any strict laws.

what a shame!
by srinivas on Dec 21, 2006 04:54 AM  Permalink

First thing I would like to blame you for forgetting your children Visa. You should feel sorry about it, but I agree with you that it is not the end of the world. At least being and Indian I should expect some respect from my fellow Indians. Some of the immigration officers are zealous towards NRIs and trying their best to trouble them and getting pleasure from their psycho activities. I hope Rediff should take more public responsibility in this type of matters and take it further like forwarding mails to Immigration officials and superiors in Mumbai. I request Vijay to send this article to all news papers with names of the officials who were involved in this scene. These Immigration officials would like to exhibit their full power on small children pretending like honest officers. This is because they are not responsible for their actions and nobody can do anything to them as long as they are in service. I request everyone reading this article that if anyone knows anybody in the Indian Immigration please forward this article to them irrespective of their designation and function. Please let all the people know how someone was suffered just because the stupidity of an officer.

WE Are pathetic
by Sanjay on Dec 21, 2006 04:50 AM  Permalink

I totally understand their pain. Although the mistake of not carrying proper papers is gross but then Immigration officer could have waited for sometime for the fax to come. Why so hurry in deporting? Why we have to be like american immigration authorities. So far giving VISA to french person is concerned then this discrimination is deep in us. This won't go. weven when you work abroad you give preference to white then to your own. This will not go away. How many times one has helped his own countryman abroad in comparison to white. Whites even though may not be of the same country helps each other .We on the other hand only try to find faults rather then help them.

same old Indian (pre 1947) attitude
by Gandhi on Dec 21, 2006 04:41 AM  Permalink

The decision for the Frenchman was a salt rub on the wound.

I am surprised that Indians are proud of Sunita Williams. What if the kid turns out to be another Astronaut tomorrow.... what will be the Indians proud of then!

A person of Indian origin does the country proud and an Indian official does nothing but bring shame to the country..... shame!.... shame!!

Mumbai Immgration office needs to be outsourced ?
by Ravi Naidu on Dec 21, 2006 04:39 AM  Permalink

The agony faced by the Children/Parents were beyond imagination. The Mumbai Immigration officials think they are next to God. This not an action of safegaurding India, it is an enactment of British Raj by concerned fellow Indian staff in Mumbai Airport.May be India needs many more people like Mahatma Gandhi or the Customer service for Indians needs to be outsourced to other customer friendly countries.

"Be Indian and not help Indian" is the slogan followed by Mumbai Immigration staff on this particular incident.
