Am I the only one who thinks that the Mumbai Immigration folks did what they are supposed to do.
First, Mr & Mrs NRI forget to bring visas of the "American Citizen" children...possibly thinking that India being India...they can always get away with it...or bribe their way through. The same desi NRIs who would check/recheck every travel document before they land in the US did not think enough of their Children's Indian visas to remember to bring it along.
KUDOS to the Immigration officers and same on Rediff for publishing this news as if it was the fault of Immigration officers.
Many Indians praises their own --- and lick whereever they can with whiteskin.
Some of our gr8 indian bretheren doing the same filthy stuff which they got from genes and built-up traits against their own country people outside India too (calling professionalism).
I wonder how some of the --- guys praising the immigration --- people for such an act.
I was detained for sometime by one of the immigration officials saying that I have a valid visa for another country also in my passport. Later luckily there was a good immigration official to help. As Vijay wrote, I too felt ashamed of being an Indian that time.
The Govt should fire these kind of idiots.
The culprit in this case should be dismissed at least.
Vijay and Vaishali Prabhu, you should be ashamed on yourself as you are yelling and cursing on Indian consulate for their duties and responsibilities.
You yourself did a foolish job for not having and brining all the documents along with you. When you said, both of you are IT professional and have US Green card then how can you do such a silly mistake of not carrying any/all immigration documents with you even a li'l educated person will also take when travel overseas.
Very sorry to hear that, I am also an NRI and it happened to me also, I paid us$ 100 as a bribe to Mumbai Immigration to let me take my Luggage which had some electronics item or they told me that they will confiscate the bag, one of the Senior office there ordered to Junior officer (Hawaldar Pandu) to take me to washroom and give him 100$ over there, I paid 100$ to release my luggage and the funny part is that Pandu Hawaldar was also asking me to give him some more money for himself, I just shouted on him and left, so always be ready with Minimum us$ 50 note or Us$ 100 note maximum if u want to pass immigration without any hesitation. THIS IS INDIA MY GROWING NATION WHERE OFFICIALS ARE CHEATER.
So next time be ready if you are landing at GREAT CITY------------------MUMBAI
It's sad that the kids had to endure a painful journey back for no fault of their own. It's bad that the dad and mom want to point fingers at others (Air France, immigration officials, white slave mentality ...) rather than take responsibility for their stupidity. It is good that the immigration folks did their job without asking for baksheesh. This is normal when you go to a country without a visa.
India is so diverse that there is always enough room to claim discrimination - because I am brown, because I am a muslim, because I am SC/ST. Next time try: because I am stupid.
What Vijay and his family had to go through is completely against the human values. I do not assume that mistake done by Vijay would be very uncommon. How can one be so numb to anybody's feeling? That to towards fellow citizen. Is this bureaucracy or hate of immigration officer towards Indian citizen? I would like to someone knowledgeable to take up this case with Immigration Department at high level.
The laws are to help society and keep the criminal attitudes away. I do not know if this immigration officer could see some criminal or terrorist in those kids that he could not wait for some time.
If the behavior was out of sheer arrogance then arrogance needs to be broken. It needs to be replaced with proper ethical working attitude. Proper training must be given to these officers.
The treatment we get outside in the world is much better than in India. Changing the attitude would help everybody.
