Very Inhuman
by Sriram on Dec 21, 2006 12:50 PM  Permalink

This is really ridiculous how our immigration officers behave. I travel abroad frquently and I completely vouch for Vijay that the immigration officers are rude and they dont even look at us. They are completely non helpful. We could never be a developed country with this attitude.

the parents were stupid.
by Arun on Dec 21, 2006 12:49 PM  Permalink

Rules are rules. There is no point about the parents lamenting on the cops after commiting stupid acts like forgetting to take visa for kids and even forgetting to take PIO cards. These are caused by we indians being over confident about ourself and having the 'chalta hai' attidute and 'kam ho jayega' attidude.

Get your documents correct first. There is no point of complaining about immigration officials, i have always got good service, both at mumbai and delhi.

Mistake of Vijay
by k.sankaran on Dec 21, 2006 12:48 PM  Permalink

If Parent of kids have offered any bribe , things would have been done smooth. Probably this will be the big mistake of vijay.
These cruel and crooked minded officers behaved in a worst manner, by showing partiality to another french national.

why scream without listening
by citizen on Dec 21, 2006 12:45 PM  Permalink

hi,

I forget the visa, someone else must adjust.

I get deported, it is someone else's fault,

why arewe all criticising the official, alleging incompetency, corruption etc. Can we refrain from commenting as this is one version , why not let the official say what happened.

Immigration
by Jyotiranjan on Dec 21, 2006 12:43 PM  Permalink

I am very sorry that the kids were treated that way by the immigration. However, I do not see any fault of the immigration. Just imagine this situation in an airport in USA for a family travelling with Indian passports - forget about deporting they simply could have been taken in custody for VISA violation.

As I understand the treatment is always reciprocal. French govt. is more liberal with visa/immigration rules - hence its citizens are treated well whereas Americans treat Indian as dogs!

Vijay and NRI family
by Kumar on Dec 21, 2006 12:42 PM  Permalink

May be a bribe would have helped them , after all Our entire nation runs on that.

Now to be serious, Law is there to help ultimately the individual citizens ( and travellers) but unfortunately the jokers in India who are given any bit of authority use it to throw their weight around. They do not have the intelligence to interpret case by case what should be done. They just hide behind law when it suits them.

I agree with you but..
by Sudesh on Dec 21, 2006 12:42 PM  Permalink

I am sorry to see the plight of the kids. They should have definitely got consideration that they are kids. The difference between the Frenchman and Indian kids was the passport. You need to have a passport to get a transit Visa. So the immiration could not do anything. Would the US allow any Non Resident US person to enter the country without any identification. The passport is a must.

A point to note about NRIs is that when Indian people travel abroad for a short duration or may be few months, we get a feeling of second hand people. These same white people treat us better than our own brownies settled there.

The immigration officials were right in not allowing without passport, but they should have given consideration and have made some arrangement to have their passport mailed/couriered as they were kids. I think other than being kids, there should no other merit considered.

US IMMIGRATION
by sowmy on Dec 21, 2006 12:37 PM  Permalink

Will there be any big hue and cry if US immigration had done this.I can tell you many a times US immigration had behaved this way and why blame our Indian Customs.

The person needs to carry the visas and there is nothing inhuman. Do not think just because you are born in India you can claim to be an Indian.

For all the people abroad ( especially US) you have

got all your education and every specialisation from India. But you have failed to honour the nation.

Your remitting money from abroad is for your own needs and what else have you done to improve India. Did you ever bother to contribute to Infrastructure fund of India as a Donation. You are only interested in NRI bonds and ADR's.

Before this lady speaks about Indian custom ask her to mail details of her contribution to India for last 9 years.

Jai Hind.
