Rao's win opens Telangana issue
by Dr.G.S.Shankar on Dec 11, 2006 11:14 PM  Permalink

I do not understand the reason against the creation of small and autonomous states. For one they provide convinience to the citizens. Smaller states in fact strengthen the union. They are bullwark against centrifugal forces and they unite centripetal forces. Of course those who propagate linguistic or regional chaunism should be afraid, because they will be routed. Telangana and Andhra may speak the same language but culturally they grew separaely for few hundred years. Telangana has been linked to Maharashatra and Madhya Preadesh thru culture and migration and Andhra to the south in combined Madras presidency. Remember sixties when people in coastal Andhra supported with Tamils against Hindi, Telangana wholehearted supported Hindi. Language like religion should not be the only deciding factor. Convinience is very important, How easy for a guy from Chittoor or Srikakulam to visit their state capital, compared to people in Haryana and Punjab?

Divisive tendencies among Indians would further prove a deathknell to the integrity of the nation. There is a need for scientific analysis and truthful investigations caused to prove any injustice caused to any region of the State before giving weightage to a political verdict in respect of one assembly constituency such as Karimnagar. The issue has eventually provided a handle to real estate business lobbies.
