Its good to see that dalits are actually fighting for their rights....but I would be happy if Dalits dont try to be yesterdays high caste, what I mean by this is if Dalits give up there hatred towards other castes then we can see a good India tomorrow where everybody feels that he is equal tohis colleague as far as his birth is concerned.
If because of the past Dalits will hate other castes then they ll face the same and this will never end.

TN is the only state that given / giving equal status to Dalits. Father and Mother of Reservation was TAMIL NADU. We love our Dalit brothers as we do others.

u give reservation o dlis bcas h centre says so but obc reservation is done by you o the levl of 99% and remember one thing, the dalits are opressed by your dominant castes like vanniars/thevars etc.

In this day and time and in the progress India has made, it is pathetic that alot of the comments even that you read about the article and the article itself chooses to distinguish one group of people to another. We should be ashamed of ourselves that we can manage to think one is higher than the other. Where did human dignity go? Instead if anything from the rapes, murders, and other acts of hypocrisy and violence, the government should be working on removing the very context of asking one's caste at any particular time or paper. Instead of pointing fingers at one another ask the empowered (politicians / officials) what they have done to change this? Or are they igniting more fires? Isnt it about time we stopped asking castes and act as a United country? Hindu, muslim, buddhists, kshatriyas, brahmins, south indians, north indians and everyone else wake up my fellow Indians we have the same blood running through our veins.Call yourselves Indians a land full of diverse culture and so much potential. I am sometimes ashamed to answer questions from people from the other countries, when they gasp in surprise that we still have atrocities due to caste.
I am a doctor and my husband a computer engineer .we live in UK and have never in our life faced discrimination and my daughter will not know what caste is But if we come come back to India she will get reservations even if she has lesser marks than a upper caste child whose parents might be struggling to eke a living.How unfair!

Reservations are legislative (not judicial or society) response to historical social evils to certain sections of the society. Government should scrap reservations when 85% of marriages in India are inter-caste or inter-religious.

Justice should be done to dalits and adivasis and downtroden of the so called Hindus and Buddhas. These castes and classes have suffered a lot beyond once imagination. It becomes our duty to give justice, power, education, due respect, help in establishing fair and respectable business. And you means so called higher society - are unable to do this at least say whole heartedly \\\"SORRY FOR ALL THE DEEDS OF OUR FOREFATHERS AND BY US - AND WE WILL NOT DO HENCE FORTH\\\" Dalits and Adivasis are our real brothers. For good education, healthy food, good dwelling and clothings are the fundamental things to be done with smiling face. Acceptance is their rights and ours duty. They are under priveledged because of the deeds of so-called high society. Just give them chance not one but thousand of Ambedkar are there in waiting. Sorry, my dear if any thing wrong has been done to you. In fact movement should be started by so-called upper caste for dalits and adivasis for due poition, power and money, education and equality in the society. In fact, it is the high time for upper class to come forward in building up a new equal society. Remember they asking for rights they are not beggers.
