yes , we must liberate bangla from pakistan
by mahesh on Dec 06, 2006 02:48 AM  Permalink

if you carefully think whole scenerio of pakistani's approach encouraging the terrorism into our country . everyone will agree ,YES , we did great job liberating bangla from pakistan. because . pakistan had tried to encroach terrorish through all of its border states of india , take punjab in past ..., gujarat , rajasthan . they implemented many terrorism acts through these states in the past only because its very nearer to pakistan border. finally they are succeded only through kashmir because mojority of the kashmiris are muslim . just think of it , if bangladesh , which is muslim populated country , is under pakistan at the moment we would be in more risk than ever coz pakistan will more active in both sides .
but oneway our prime minister Mrs Gandhi did the huge mistake by not resolving the kashmir issue when captiate 93,000 of pakistani soldiers . i dont know how such a brave woman missed the logic and did let them go away without any compensation.if she did it at that time , we would be more safer , happier , stronger than ever .

Bang -la-Desh
by Ilyas on Dec 06, 2006 02:40 AM  Permalink

It would be terribly pathetic and unauthentic if Bangadesh starts overgrowing atrocities against India. India has always acted like brother( Mind not like big brother) to resove, co-operate with Bangladesh in all means which includes their freedom from Pakistani's due to big cultural, linguistic drift, injustice proportion from other west pakistanis.
However, Bangadesh still posses big admirer of India.
Hopes, Bangladesh realise the important of good realtion with India.

We were right
by Sibalik on Dec 06, 2006 02:26 AM  Permalink

Hello,

Many politicians in Bangladesh agree that they would be a weapons state. Then imagine India's plight. It would be surrounded by hostile nuclear weapon states on 3 sides. that is not a pleasant thought or situation. At the same time, Pakistan is unprincipled and unethical nation which will never have true friends. As for the Bangladeshis, the seem to be the biggest fools. If Pakistan was so keen to retain them, why did they not allow Mujibur Rehman to become Kaiser-E-Pakistan. The have displayed the worse form of racism and if Bangladesh thinks they would have gained anything out of their association with Pakistan, it would only be appeasement of their servile outlook.

India should not have helped
by Hari on Dec 06, 2006 02:09 AM  Permalink

History repeats itself. The mighty Marathas lost the third battle of Panipat when the Mughuls helped Ahmed Shah Abdali only because they were Muslims. Hence, repeatitions between Bangla and Pakistan is not new. I think India's adventure was its dismal failure to capitulate on 1965 invasion and subsequent Tashkent agreement. All we hope is we learn from history and unfortunately, we do not.

We did the right thing
by Sunit Patil on Dec 06, 2006 01:58 AM  Permalink

I think it is ridiculuous to ask the question of whether India did the right thing in 1971. India has always stood for peace and democracy. We could not have tolerated inhumane atrocities by the Pak military on innocent people. Moreover, the 1971 war was an ideological victory for Indians over the principle of two nation theory.

Nations cannot be built on religion alone. If religion would have been the sole uniting factor there would not have been so many arab nations, all muslim and all speaking the same language.

no India did the right thing in liberating bangladesh
by Arindam on Dec 06, 2006 01:40 AM  Permalink

Of course India did the right thing in liberating bangladesh. The problems facing us isn't due to the liberation but rather our inadequacy as a nation. Our political leadership has always skirted the issue of nationalism had we been a bit aggressive viz other nations like china then no neighbour of ours would have dared challenge us directly or indirectly. But we being a peace loving nation would provide hospitality to the terrorists and our enemies. If Dhaka can continue its posturing why cant we do the same.I agree india is a responsible nation but that does not in any way should allow other nations to openly threaten us.

That was good, but we should have had a longer influence
by harihar gangadhar bharat on Dec 06, 2006 01:34 AM  Permalink

I know some bangladeshish personally, all say the samething: Indian army just came as backup support, they fought and won their war. IA crediblity is zero for them. its barely in any books.

Islamic movement propaganda is at its peak like paki or any such country. It is all hopeless. (plus they have 4 days or 1 week strike at a time, 10 times a year at least would u belive.)

Solid Border fencing is the only way to reduce the pain.

Action against Bangladesh & Pakisthan.
by Tapas Chakraborti on Dec 06, 2006 01:31 AM  Permalink

Our politicians are to blame for this for what happened after creation of Bangaladesh. Every political party have and are using the Bangadeshi infiltrators as vote bank by providing them Ration card etc. One can find Bangladeshis spread all over India. More over, our Goverment is reluctant to take any hard measures neither against Bangladesh nor Pakistan. Why we not send / mobilise people to that countries, to create the same problems they are creating here ? We have the resources, much better / higher than any of that countries. Pay the same men & push them back to the same countries to forment disturbances. If that is not sufficient, destroy the so called training camp etc inside those countries. Stop blaming, start action. Any infiltrators noticed trying to cross into India should be shoot at sight. No capture, no handover back, only encounter.

Bangladesh was Indira's master-stroke for her own glory
by Sudhir Bisht on Dec 06, 2006 01:23 AM  Permalink

When Indian Army teamed up with Muktibahini to inflict a humiliating defeat on Pakistan's Army, all Indian thumped their chests in victorious joy. The Opposition leaders joined the slave Congress men in paying tributes to Indira Gandhi.
35 years on, rediff has sent us a bouncer by asking if Bangladesh should have been liberated at all?
While some would duck at this bouncer, I would like to play the hook shot.
India hit an axe on its own leg by helping Bangladesh gain liberation. India's sole problem with Bangladesh was the rapid influx of Bangladeshis into our country.
It could have been controlled without liberating Bangladesh. India didn't do that then. The Congress government rather allowed more rapid influx of refugees in our country to consolidate its vote bank.
Bangladesh was the second most troublesome part of Pakistan (the most troublesome even then was North West Frontier Pakistan) and was thousands of miles separated from Pakistan. The entire Eastern command of Pakistan was devoted to keeping the uprising in East Bengal on check.
India's defeat of Pakistan helped Pakistan get rid of its biggest problem. It has become India's number One problem now!
