The Dalit phenomenon is an invention of the media, and partly a result of a divide in society which existed in colonial times.
The fact is that India is a country which has a lumbering economy with a very small degree of social mobility. The poor remain poor, and the rich get richer. This has nothing to do with caste.
Mr. Raj, you have said that reservation is required for dalits. This proves that Dalits are handicapped. In the fast changing scenario, if you cannot leave your handicapped nature and only shout, it shows how much educated are you.
Please come to the mainstream and don't let peole say that you are handicapped and are here bcoz of reservation. Else you don't have the capability for it.

as much as possible to undo the wrongs of the past as India did. Pakistan was a part of India where ssome Dalits also live. Do they have similar privileges? Brahmins are constantly attacked-even Sankaracharaya was taken in shackles. Branhimins did not go on rampage. Do the Dalits want to leave their caste and say we are casteless?-even when they change their religion to Christianity and Islam, they want to be called Dalits for the privileges. For how long and how many generations is this?. The really oppressed backward person does not get the quota. The same families like Udit Raj for generations take away the seats reserved for the really under privileged. Does this Raj say proudly that "I am forward and I give up my privilege for my brothers who really need it what ever their caste is!"-There are others in India who need to live too. "Thousands of years of suppression" slogan does not stick for ever. Those years are gone-what happens now is important. You pillage and plunder wand want sympathy-no you can't have it. If I open a shop for my living, why should I reserve a position to the one who always curses me?

Do you know history. Ambedkar only helped the Mahar sect of Dalits and not all dalits. It has become a habit for the leaders to use one popular guys name and make money. Paswan during his tenure as Railway minister, I am told, issued 700 passes free. How many of them Dalits, I would like to know.. Ambedkar himself told categorically that reservation should be for ONE GENERATION or one decade only as a temporary measure. Periyar in Tamil Nadu put chappal mala on Indian god\\\\\\\'s statues and cut the thread of brahmins on the streets. Did Hindus and brahmins burn Trichy Express. This is just wanting to loot and just to blackmail the general people for personal gains. Reservations on caste is never going to improve people but only education. Why Dont Dalit leaders like Mayavati(got her weight in gold for her birthday last year) and Paswan use their illegal wealth to educate poor dalits who they say they represent. They want taxpayer\\\\\\\'s money and not their personal money( They dont pay tax) and free votes. That is the bottom line. DR Udit Raj will become a little more popular with such articles, get a good job in a better paper and then forget dalits. Dont believe him.

Reservations are legislative (not judicial or society) response to historical social evils to certain sections of the society. Government should scrap reservations when 85% of marriages in India are inter-caste or inter-religious.

First you should have self confidence to compete with other castes in all fields. You dalits want to enjoy all benefits because of your caste which is legally denied to others & want to be treated above others. If you deserve to be treated properly you come out of your caste & tell i don't want reservation.
All SC/ST idolise Dr. Ambedkar but he did not support reservation. What we need is good infrastructure for education. Most private companies recruits on basis of merit if dalits (I never like this word) showcase their skills they can get in. Why reservations ??

why? Reservation can be done for needy,poor & deserving . Not on caste basis.
85% of people are desperate working poor in an informal economy and their lives oscillate between fear and frustration.
The remaining well to do people are always in search of collusion mostly in the form of caste to enhance their wealth.
A credible basic income guaranteed system for every one whether they work or not will bring in dignity instead of desperation for the working poor and inheritance taxes will stimulate compassion instead of collusion.

Dear Known, Show me the list of So called Dalit leaders like Paswan, Mayavati, Dr Ramadoss, Mulaym Singh etc and ask them the same question. How many of the so called leaders of the dalits have married them to their children. I am a brahmin and my cousins have married catholic, protestant, muslim, Kamath, Shetty, marwadi etc,, in fact my daughter will be marrying a mudaliar boy. The question of caste is only for the so called dalit leaders who do nothing but make a fool of their followers. Caste is something we should leave at home for praying,,the only recourse for uplift of the poor is EDUCATION, EDUCATION AND EDUCATION. Marriages will come autmatically out of education and intermingling. Nothing comes free my dear Known. Dont try to snatch things from others and say it is levelling. Earn it , then only u will know the value of it and can keep it my dear friend. Fight the government for education instead of reservations which is rightfully yours by the constitution and if all of you insist on schools in every village for votes, in one generation, you can remove your backwardness.

350 million people STARVING (for which YOU and I are indirectly responsible) every day for a meal in India.
I propose a nationwide credible "minimum" income guaranteed system for every one whether they work or not will bring in "dignity" instead of desperation for the working poor and "inheritance taxes" will stimulate "compassion" instead of collusion.
Such system will prevent all socioeconomic issues in India viz farmer suicides, dowry deaths, child labor, fear, frustration, corruption, bribery, prostitution, terrorism etc.
