I wish Mr. Menon all the best in this tough job. Except the Nepal fiasco, Saran also did well. I call Nepal policy a fiasco, because India ended up supporting the Maosit rebels. These Maoists are linked with the Naxalites running amok the entire northern belt of India itself. It could have been avoided. There was no reason for India to be overly emotional about bringing democracy in Nepal, afterall the Nepalese politicians are known for their ungratefulness and corrupt practices. They forget about what India has done the moment they come to power. We hope to see a tougher grip on the Naxalites through a stronger approach towards the Nepalese Maoists during the tenure of Mr. Menon.
Appointment ofMr. S.S. Menon as foreign secretary of India in place of MrSaran is to be acclaimed. His grand father K.P.S Menon was a great diplomat who assisted panditji in formulating the non alignment policy.Being son, grand son and nephew of diplomats,Mr S. S. Menon has diplomacy in his blood. I wish him best ofluck in his new assignment. Regards, P.G.Panikkar
