Time for No reservation
by Vikram Natarajan on Aug 30, 2006 07:33 PM  Permalink

Its not time yet to yank reservation out of India. Thousands of years of oppression doesn't get mended with a paltry 60 year period of affirmative action. I belong to the so called forward castes in India and I feel that reservation still holds water in India.

Keep it going but control the abuse of the policies. We still owe it to a large segment of the Indian populace. Their upliftment using these quotas will only benefit the future generations. I do agree that there has to be less of a casteist approach and more of an economic approach, but eliminating the casteist approach in entirety will be wrong since the fact is that the majority of the downtrodden do belong to the classified backward castes.

I hope for a day when the casteism divide is eliminated in the Indian society, probably an idealistic wish, but could happen.

Totally agree with you
by balaji on Aug 30, 2006 07:33 PM  Permalink

I totally agree with each and every thing in this article. Why there is no reservation in politics. If politicans want reservation, then there should be a rule that all the politicians will be treated by doctors who used the reservation quota for their education and also the only those pilots who came from reservation quota will fly the planes carrying the politicians. Can they do this?

Quality of output will get diluted..
by Kalpesh on Aug 30, 2006 07:19 PM  Permalink

The major impact will be on the campus recruitment at these premier institute. If quota comes into place, over a period of time, the quality of output will be diluted which in near future is going to affect the campus recruitment in terms of no of opportunities as well as the package. Talking in terms of Medical Institutions , its the life of millions which will be put at risk if you don't have good docotors around. God bless the future generation of this country.

Reservation free India
by Phanikumar on Aug 30, 2006 07:17 PM  Permalink

I completly agree with you in your thoughts. Govt doesn\'t care even students die asking not to have the reservations in educational system. Not that I am against the people with reservations but brilliant people has to have their mark in the society. I appreciate you taking the initiation and writing a column about this.

Very true and the article covers all evil things that can happen..one more thing is to look at the brain drain that will start with intelligent people moving to US and other countries..thereby severely affecting and hampering a prosperous India's future.

BULLSHIT
by Bharat on Aug 30, 2006 06:57 PM  Permalink

Hey Mr Narang,

Why dont you invest so much intelligence and your valuable time in doing something productive rather than writing such bullshit articles.

The point is that we never required British to divide us, we ourselves want division of our society.

Last but not least what is point comparing some vague situations with reservations. The reservations are only for educational purposes and not for any other sector.

Replies always welcome

Thanks
Bharat

kick the politicians
by nikhil on Aug 30, 2006 06:53 PM  Permalink

well written...
only caste-reservation free india can be developed.
reservation should be based on economic status only..

the ones who are really in the need of reservation..they never make it to that level..and those who aren't in need of any reservation, they misuse it.

all the politicians should be kicked hard in their back. its enough and they should be stopped from making mockery of democracy...

i fear Arjun Singh won't live happily.. neither he will be allowed to die peacefully.

Quota politics
by Ranjan on Aug 30, 2006 06:52 PM  Permalink

You wrote, "the country's two largest parties, the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party, are controlled by the upper castes".

Why don't they start with reserving 37% ministerial position for the SC/ST and additional numbers for OBC etc. etc. etc.

Bring this proposal and watch the reaction. Quota politics is in real India a "Classless" politics by the upper cast low class politicians.
