Amsterdam Detention
by Satheesh on Aug 25, 2006 01:18 PM  Permalink

Indian government should take appropriate action. If the detainees have any kind of link with terrorists, India should give enough support by freezing any bank account in India and other helps as required. If the detainees did not commit any mistake, Indian must get them released as quickly as possible. We cannot bear any kind of offence against our citizens.

It's bound to have happened...
by Rahul on Aug 25, 2006 01:18 PM  Permalink

If white skinned westerners were involved is terrorism in India...wouldn't we do exactly the same thing ? Like it or not racial profiling is something we will have to live with for some time.

Flight travel
by Thiru on Aug 25, 2006 01:14 PM  Permalink

This is a question of passengers not following instructions of the cabin crew.

I have seen many Indians standing up when the flight lands even though seat belt sign is on and announcement made repeatedly that passengers be seated with seatbelts on till aircraft comes to a complete halt.

So how can you blame airlines or cabin crew.

It is rubbish to say that there is discrimination on Asian passengers.

Can any one say whether all Indians are treated properly in domestic flights? If a passenger wears a suit he gets preferential treatment than a passenger in dhoti.

If a foreigner is on board all cabin crew attend to foreigner first!

Discipline and orderliness is the word. Follow the instruction and avoid inconvenience.

Using mobile phones, moving around in the flight when asked to be seated- obviously is a fault.

It is unfortunate that because of 12 misbehaving persons 150 others had to suffer.

Civilians as Terrorists
by Rahul on Aug 25, 2006 01:03 PM  Permalink

These people hide among civilians, then when time comes become terrorists to kill innocent people. What can you expect from law enforcement authorities. They are feeling further emboldened by the liberal governments who sacrifice their own people for the sake of their votes.

Discrimination
by Pradeep on Aug 25, 2006 12:49 PM  Permalink

This refers to the discrimination against Pakistan in oval test match and recent problem faced by passengers of an airline in Amesterdam. It seems that special campaign is launched by the west against south asians. I think its right time to raise the voice so that in future such things should not be raised by the west in a light manner. Its an insult to the asia community in general and to south asians in particular. I think we should stop travelling in west airlines and use native airlines so that language and cultural barriers can be overcome.

let them do their job
by Sunil Kumar Batchu on Aug 25, 2006 12:04 PM  Permalink

I have travelled 5 to 6 times to international destinations. I stongly feel we should support and fully co-operate with security agencies in their actions. It is their duty to provide us a safe journey to our destinations. Why should we feel guilty if we are not having any evil designs to harm fellow passengers. We should hear and follow the instructions provided by the air lines for our safety. I remember other occassions where air-lines have detained other nationals too for security check not only indians. Never club Indians with other asians as the reasons are different.

Northwest Episode
by Rajesh on Aug 25, 2006 12:04 PM  Permalink

To a lot of extent i feel the saga was called for. It is very good news since some one else is trying to discipline us the indians. If i were in that aircraft i would not had supported the muslims just 'coz they are muslims. Their conduct on the aircraft was definately questionable and required the measures which was taken. They should learn their lesson now and stop acting childesh and take responsibility for their unproper conduct.

Are passengers racially profiled
by anil on Aug 25, 2006 11:46 AM  Permalink

Are passengers racially profiled ? It is a stupid question. Of course they won't strip a buddhist or roman catholic to the same extent. I would not recommend any form of travel or trade by innocent muslims till terrorism stops. You can only avoid the problem, it will be there as long as terrorism exists . Brand Images have been formed so now it will take time to change it - if you try to excercise your rights , you will find verification to be distasteful. If you feel this will breed more terrorists then you are embracing a path of no return.
