are passengers racially profiled
by suman on Aug 25, 2006 10:47 AM  Permalink

IT is happened b'cuz the 12 persons were misbehaving in plane. (not b'cuz of their backgroung,.)The behaviour of a group of passengers aroused suspicion among the crew, who alerted Dutch officials on ground

ind media should not give fasle information.

It is good sign that countries across world are taking tough measure to combat terrorism and strict safety measures to ensure the safety of air passangers. India may be only country where terrorists blasted bombs, killed innocent ppl and ran away. Govt is not allowing policie/army not to take action against terrorists, militants.Govt is opened borders making an easy access to militants, isi agents, terrorists and illegal immigrants. In Jk new trend is some terrorists ase the hindu names...

Ind media is totally biased

What did you expect ?
by Sujai on Aug 25, 2006 10:44 AM  Permalink

What else would you expect ? people in an aircraft flying at great heights... every one fears for their life. Show me one person who does not. I don't blame the people for acting in such a manner. Its a preception, show us the other side of the preception and people will accept that too...

Are passengers racially profiled - Definitely not
by rohit on Aug 25, 2006 10:43 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think its just 'racial' thought and not a rational one. I don't think people in customer services like that Ariline would show racial prejudices, even though there will be many takers for it. There will be individual cases but its unlikely in an incident like this. If the flight had been grounded then there would be solid reason. If the behaviour of soem passengers were the reason then it is. If they are on the flight they have to obey the instructions of the crew. Its not the streets of Mumbai. If they dont follow the rules and guidelines then and talk in a language alein to the airlien staff then probably they might have reason to suspect. Its days of 'terrorism', so they have to take care....

Discrimination in Asia too
by Akhtar on Aug 25, 2006 10:36 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In HongKong too I have experienced such discrimination as I was not Mongoloid features. After 9/11 the discrimination has become more glaring. The poor chaps of North-West were arrested also because they were wearing Pathani Suits instead of Western suits and tie. And this is the freedom and democracy in the west about which the WEST is lecturing the Third World. They are suffering not only from Islamophobia but also a superiority Complex and Cultural megalomania.

It is not like that Akhtar, but, the West has taken precautionary measures against the terrorists, who are given to destroying others, who are non-mulims. The crews have completed their job. This is exactly justified. The circumstances have forced the muslims to a denigrated place owing to the acts of certain "bloody muslims " and rendered Islam impure. Those "bloody muslims" should be severly punished for denigrating Islam. You should support the acts of the crews for securing the life of the passengers. Let them do their job...ONCE AGAIN CREWS...GOOD JOB DONE...JUST CARRY IT ON.....

do you "All Muslims are not terrorists, but (recently) all terrorists are Muslims", so their steps are justified for safety.

by Shyam on Aug 25, 2006 10:34 AM  Permalink

People on the flight have reported that they felt a feeling of fear due to the bahaviour of 'these passengers'.

If fellow Indians are made to feel that way then let's not blame people from other country.

NO!!!!
by Jay on Aug 25, 2006 10:34 AM  Permalink

No.. As far as my experience travelling in international flights is concerned. I don't think so that asians are racially profiled. Its justified. on their part to carry out the investigations.

And, having travelled with indians onboard the international flights. Some of the passengers act in an illiterate manner, that they would not heed to what the flight crew is telling them to do. They would end up arguing as to why it should be done and so on. They would not cooperate the slightest especially now when the threat level is at the increase they should be cooperating but they would not......

I don't really think this is the case everywhere, agree, perhaps it's the recent happenings that has increased the paranoia.

I work in Europe and keep travelling most of the times and my flying experiences so far has been, really pleasant.

It is common knowledge, that us Indians are a noisy lot, compared to the reserved Europeans.

Take a book, read, sleep and just mind your own business, no one will even bother you.

Airlines should hold to professional Nerves
by Dharmendra Goel on Aug 25, 2006 10:29 AM  Permalink

Panchkula. Friday ,25th Aug. 2006.

Without holding any brief for the terrorists of any genre,I do feel that the Men in the Global Air-traffic must gear up their steely composure, as they are passing through highly trying period in the Age of Terrorism. There is of course the security but it should not obliterate reality of Multi -culturalism and diversity of the travelling air-passengers in increasingly complex scenario of global air -Business.The panic reactions to racial differences, languages or visage should be stamped out by crash courses in multi-cultural ethnicities among the Aviation Professionals. This should not mean lessening safety or security for air-travel but quiet and vigilant professionalism in the crew. Stop This
by Shee on Aug 25, 2006 10:28 AM  Permalink

I think that if there is a suspision at people looking similar to fanatics, checking has to be done, whether it looks racial or non racial. Its our safety at stake. Since these barbaric people are mostly from the countries which have some similarity with Indian looks therefore its our duty to cooperate. We call them racial at ease, while no one calls the pigs who sponser these idiot terrorists fanatic. Strange.
