Reciting Vande Maatharam
by Pradeep on Aug 24, 2006 02:58 PM  Permalink

I fail to understand why we need to mix religious belief and recitation of the national song. If reciting a national song is against religious belief then even reciting the National Anthem- Jana Gana Mana- should be against the same belief! What is the harm in singing a line of praise for our motherland where we are living enjoying the freedom and its resources? I wonder which GOD will be angry with that!

Dont forget Vande Mataram is our National Song!
by Raj on Aug 24, 2006 02:56 PM  Permalink

In my view this is a very serious issue and hurts directly on our national integraty. Dont forget that VANDAMATRAM is our National Song and many of our freedom fighters in the past and defence force at present sing irrespective of their religion. When ever you sing National Song or National Antham you keep no religion or God or diety in mind. Its our country that we praise and worship in the song and not any particular religion or God.

If your hearts are pure and most importantly if you LOVE INDIA then their is no sin in Singing our National Song.

If you leave this issue tommrow they may say that praising \'BHARAT MATA\' (Mother India) is sin and is not allowed in our religion and so on and so forth.

Jai Hind,

Proud Indian

Vande Mataram.........
by John on Aug 24, 2006 02:56 PM  Permalink

I feel reciting ' Vande Mataram' touches my soul more than ' Jana Gana Mana'. I can feel some thing in me when I recite the song. Some force which takes me leagues ahead in time and space. I makes me connect to some unknown factor which gives me goose pimples.

There is nothing wrong in reciting a song honouring one's mother. It is only beacuse of the mother that we first breathe on this earth. Everything comes second before one's mother.

I do not undertsnad why a section of the society is against singing it. May be its just a small part of the population. There are bigots in every society and we can choose to ignore them.

Finally, all Indians should sing this song with their eyes closed and then they will fell what it is to feel the feel.....

Vande Mataram
by Sachin Watarkar on Aug 24, 2006 02:53 PM  Permalink

Vande Mataram is our National song. Though we have our National anthem which signifies the Unity in Diversity of Indian people, various languages, cultures, traditions , still it signifies that we are all bound by Oneness - i.e Being an Indian.

Similarly, Vande Mataram is our Patriotic song which makes us remember of our national leaders and warriors who struggled to provide us Freedom and Independence from the atrocitic British Rule , who ruled India - the Great Hindustan for over 250 years.

This Independence and Freedom that we enjoy today , we have to indebted to all those National leaders and patriots who led down down their valuable lives for MOTHER INDIA.

In remembrance to those and their struggle, Vande Mataram should be made mandatory in all Schools and Government as well as Private Institutions to be sung by all who consider themselves as INDIANS. Nobody should have the heart to dare against this.

When all live in India, they should consider themselves as Indians , then why should there be any doubt and question in the minds of anybody of not valuing the thought of singing Vande Mataram.

I strongly recommend that everyone who is an INDIAN, should sing it.

what vande mataram means to me
by swmpnn on Aug 24, 2006 02:51 PM  Permalink

It is a patriotic and poetic felicitation of -the mother land . some ethnic groups are sore about it just because they are oblivious of two facts firstly that there is no harm in a poetic personification of the land of their birth as MOTHER [as the song goes BANDE MATARAM-obeisance to our mother! } as the tradition of this land goes -janai janm bhumisch swargadapi gareeyasi [mother land is more important than even heaven] secondly there is a subtle difference between personification and deifying . NO hindu deity has been deified in this song by Bankim chandra chaterjee . notions of mother land and father land are determined by the gender of the nation - india is SHE!

As an Indian there is nothing wrong in reciting the song. There have been controversies

from certain Minority run Institutes reciting the song, if they are not willing because of religious sentiments as a secular country we cannot force them. Even if they dont recite

the song the greatness of the song is not going be shunned.
