Even though I was born long after independance, still Vande Mataram arouses such strong feeling of nationalist pride, which no other song can. This song inspired millions to realise the concept of honour and pride, uniting them to fight against the common enemy of the nation. By equating nation to god, it is representative of a culture which transcended all religions and differences.
It is shame that our country politician are disregarding national song. Days are not far when politician like arjun singh, manmohan singh and sonia gang will applaud burning of tricolor flag in parliament. Our voter have very short sight they should be able to identify traitor after being slave for so many years....
like any other patriotic songs in any other country, I guess vande mataram should only be sung with a very strong voice. AR rehman's screeming (read crying) song looks like he is calling his own mother and not our mother, our nation.
I think any Indian should be proud to recite the Vande Mataram, to honour and respect the hundreds and thousands of people that gave their life for this country.
The Imam and Mulaylam should be greatful and privileged that they live in the largest democracy and are able to express their opinions freely. Which was achieved by martyrs whose only mantra was the "Vande Mataram".
What is shocking that neither have any better things to do to improve communal harmony of this country. And shouldn't the Imam be sticking to religion and not politics?
You asked us to tell us again and again about something that is not even an Issue. There is no resistence to Vande Mataram in an sane Indians. If Rediff thinks otherwise, perhaps, they should tell us. Activist Journalism is lacking in mainstream media. But thank God, this is not 50s - 90s, where we have no alternative... In Few more years, Internet would be wide spread, and activist journalism would be in the hand of ordinary citizens, good/bad it maybe, and not in mainstream Media.... In USA, if someone had questioned Vande Mataram, there would have been labels thrown all around. The anti National activities of Congress gets none at recieving end, thanks much to Cowardice of Media... Vande Mataram signifies the completness of one's national pride. It arouses in me an eager want to serve & respect the older generations who gave all to provide us a Free INDIA. If Bukhari does not recognise that he is either blinded by religion or by politics!
The one simple question that has to be posed to him is this: Are you 100% Indian? The answer has to be either YES or NO!
If YES -- Sing the Vande Mataram & declare your National pride to your fellow citizens!
If NO, pack his bags & throw him into Pakistan!!!!!!!

A song that beat in the hearts and minds of every indian during the freedom struggle. Its a song that united Indians all the way from bengal, assam, Martha , Karanataka, Kerala , Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Its a song that represents all of us as Indian...When Maulana Azad and Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan didn't have any problems singing it..whats your problem???
