The very concept of divorce or breaking of marraige was alien and unacceptable to the major race here. The fear of the muslims that they would be excommunicated by their fellow muslims worldover if they adopt something which they feel is antimuslim is baseless. Their bretheren in Kazagstan were ruled over by the communists who are more abohorred to them than the Hindus and yet they don't have any qualms about it. If Hindus feel that govt. is doing any disservice to nation by not imposing Vande Materam on the muslims then they are free to vote it out quitely. This platform offered by rediff.com should be used for discussing something more useful, informative and constructive.
As usual again Indian people are taking charm in making issues out of non-issues like the politicians they elect. Vande Materam is given a status of emminence by our constitution which in turn was a collective handiwork of those reffered (and revered) to as the "founding fathers" of this nation(?). Those big people had such a massive backing in this land which I wonder if even the founder of the faith of the major minority community in this land had in his time the world over. We are required to pay respect to this poem as per the provisions made by our founding fathers(and Prophet of any sect in the world was not among them). Therefore, instead of going into the details of its meaning and searching whether it hurts any sectarian feelings the practicality recommends that it should be adopted by each and every Indian irrespective of his faith. It is well known that we have to suffer for the misdeeds of our parents (or even acestors)who also take pains to bring us up. Our founding fathers have even hurt the cultural feelings of the majority community in their attempt to build a healthy society. (carried fwd in the next message)
Well, well, we have one more issue to fight about now. Come, let us fight!
The Govt (and the opposition) cannot do anything that is really worth for the development of the country. All they do is to seek to divide the country in all possible ways. We people readily accept any divisions and "fight it out" on the street and kill each other. We don't think or dare to ask the politicians, "Singing a song is ok, but may I ask you why is that we don't have even safe drinking water to everyone in all metro cities (even if not in villages) in India".
See how the govts fool people! For 50 years of independence, did we get any more development? Na, all we got were renaming a few cities, and we are supposed to feel about happy about! :)
If the Govt really wants to do something for downtrodden, does it implement any schemes? Na, they divide people on caste-lines and give reservations. That is because they DON'T have to do anything for this but can still claim it as an achievement.
Coming to the current 'issue', I feel, to make singing a song compulsory AND to vehemently opposing to sing it are both silly, to say the least.

Well said Ramesh. You have summarized the entire issue with an appropriate example. The Muslim appeasement policy adopted by Gandhiji still continues to run in the Congress tradition. Yes, Muslims are also part of India and must be treated as Indian citizens. But when the demands of any one particular community (majority or minority) conflict with national interest then those demands must not be encouraged. Gandhiji made the same mistake and we are seeing nothing different even today.

Dear Mr. Raj!
You are balanced & focussed!
By the way, I have a small suggestion on your views on reservation! Do you think ALL those who are entitled to the reservation is to be treated like equals? See, the basic issue is the fear inherited in them. We should leave some time for them to remove the fear from their eyes! If you read their body language, you can feel their uncomfortable feeling in your presence, however big the position he carries!
We should not judge these people watching our metro culture that all are equals and so on.. We should travel to the deepest interior of the villages.. If we have a heart for the fellow beings, fellow Indians, it feels so awkward, feel sad and will also wonder what the meaning of 'a developed country by 2020'!
We should plan for the poor who do not speak, do not read & write and who did not hear what TV & Internet is all about!
(Most of the posts with us in this forum is written from the comfort of their luxurious homes or offices! We see the poor only when we see them on BBC or on other western channels!)
So, as we said, nation building should come as our first priority!
"Vande mataram" undoubtedly united the whole Bharath against the brutal might of Curzon, even before one Mohandas Gandhi came on the scene of freedom struggle. Vande mataram proves that the freedom struggle was not patented by Gandhi. It is an inspiring song depicting Bharat Mata in all her glory. It was the invocation song of every Congress session, at least till 1921 or (1923). In the Kakinada Session of 1921 (23?), as usual Pt Digambar Paulaskar, was majestically rendering the Song to commence the Session. The acting president of the Congress, Sahukat Ali of Lucknow, objected to the Song and asked Paulaskar to stop as it was anti-Islamic. Paulaskar promptly replied that the place where it is being rendered is a Congress session and not a mosque, and completed the rendering. Mr.Ali walked out of the session. And lo and behold ! The great Father of the Nation capitulated to the fanaticism of the muslim president and pacified the latter, by ordering that this great song will not be sung in the Congress sessions ! Are we seeing anything similar now, in its 100th yr ? This is a call to all bharatheeyans to learn all the stanzas of the song now and render it in groups on Sept 7. RPG

Great Sir!
You don't mind accusing and abusing our Gandhiji, but preach Vandemataram because you are so patriotic! You mean that! What are you trying to prove?
Shame on you, man!
First salute the Father of Our Nation, then recite 'Jana Gana Mana', thus prove yourself. Then, we'll think of making your selection compulsive on everyone.
(At the same time, shun in from the terrorists whose believes are so brittle that by singing a song, God is felt entrapped! So weak a God!)
The entire topic is a part of some drama, as arrogance as the theme!
Vande matram or anything thing in favour of india -- Many people from other cummnity never supports.they discus about kashmir , pakistan i want to know they want join lobby of jaichand , jinna ,imam bukhari, mulsim leage or lobby of bagat singh, chandrashekar azad, subash chandra bosh, ashfaq ullah khan. Atleast show your loyalty for country
Vande Mataram makes me proud of our nation and the acts of valour and sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. It swells my chest whenever I sing it.
And statements by Arjun Singh, various mullah and maulvis are nothing but treason/sedition. Why do these people live here if they are so pained by singing Vande Mataram? They are free to leave and world is a big place for these nutcases. Jis thali mein khana ussi mein ched karna is an old hobby amongst them and this was witnessed in 1947.
I surely feel every patriotic Indian should sing and respect the national song Vande Mataram. I do not agree with the argument of a section of fundamentalists that their religon does not permit its singing . There is nothing more ridiculous to link the song to a faith. The song has inspired thousands of people in the country to fight for India and create a unique bond with the nation. The BJP certainly has a point in saying that those who have objection to Vande Mataram should find somewhere else to live. It is shocking that a senior leader like Arjun Singh from the Congress which sang the song with fervour, supports the community clerics in their refusal to sing the national song. Really shameful.
Vande Matram mean love , loyalty for motherland . the people was against vandematram ,they build pakistan. Now people are against , is they are looking for same?
